Late model 5.9 engine and trans swap

    Thanks for that info; I didn't know that. I bouught a B & M, and it wasn't cheap :(

Late model 5.9 engine and trans swap

Don't forget, if you choose to go with a 904, that the flex-plate has to be deliberately out-of-balance to accommodate the engine's being externally-balanced. I did (kinda) this swap (L-A 340/'64 Valiant) back in 1972.... one sweet ride! You'll love it!

66 dart with 360 ...what manifolds or headers?

I had the original '71 manifolds (not the header-looking passenger-side manifold,) and it scraped the side of the inner-fender panel HARD (simultaneously with the driver's side,) as it was being lowered into the engine compartment. It was a tight fit, hitting on both sides. I was going to live...

66 dart with 360 ...what manifolds or headers?

I repeat; my '64 Valiant had an "installed by ME" 1971 Demon 340 engine, and with the engine bolted down to the mounts, the manifolds were TRAPPED, solid, on BOTH sides so that the engine could not move... there was NO clearance. That car had never been wrecked, so I don't know why some of the...

66 dart with 360 ...what manifolds or headers?

Well, back in 1972 I had a 1964 Valiant, 2-door post (sedan) and a 1971 340 engine out of a (1971) Demon, had the manifolds bolted to the engine, had the engine supported with a cherry picker and decided to drop her into the engine bay and in doing so, encountered solid interference on BOTH...

    74 to 65 Drivetrain Swap!

I'll look forward to that Magnum Manifold thread. Thanks for doing that. In the meantime, just a yes or no question: We you able to use Magnum manifolds on both sides? Any information will be appreciated... just a yes or no would be fine.

    74 to 65 Drivetrain Swap!

Looks like you did a great job fitting it in there! Tell us about the exhaust manifolds, please.:blob:

    New to me...a 1964 Valiant!

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! I had a twin to this car in 1971... put a 340 in it.... big mistake. If EVER saw a car SCREAMING for a turbocharger (on the /6) this is it.... Three hundred horsepower is like falling out of a tree for that motor, and it's not just another 340/360 swap...

    It's a documented illness... I've had it for years...:banghead:

    74 to 65 Drivetrain Swap!

That is great advice because you can use drill bits stuck in the holes you drilled for a perfect re-alignment. Worked for me...:blob:

    74 to 65 Drivetrain Swap!

The really weird part of my swap was that the driveshaft was the right length but it should not have fit because the donor car (1971 Demon) had a 108" wheelbase and my '64 Valiant had a 106". WHY WAS IT THE RIGHT LENGTH? It should have been too long. But, it wqn't; it fit perfectly, so I...

    74 to 65 Drivetrain Swap!

I did this swap in '72. Engine, bell-housing, tranny, driveshaft and 8.75" rear from a '71 Demon donor car into a '64 Valiant 2-door sedan. The left fromt motor mount was different, but I made the early mount work; can't remember how. I used EVERYTHING (it was a 4-speed car and my '64 V8...

    No Respect for Early-A's

Well, thanks for the support. I do appreciate it. I have had a lifetime of normally-aspirated V8s and just wanted to try something different for a change. I HAVE a V8 car... never have had a six, nor a turbocharged car. This is all new terrritory for me, but I'd be lying if I said this...

    No Respect for Early-A's

THanks, Gregg! If this thing will hook, it MIGHT get out of its own way, I dunno... It weighs 2,680 with no driver, but getting the turbo to spool (quickly) may be a bigger problem than traction. If it was easy, everyone would do it... LOL! We may find out why most folks DON'T do it...

I appreciate the kind words!!! Thanks a lot! "What size Hoosier's are you running?" The biggest I could get in there... They're 9" wide, 26-inches tall and on 15" rims. Hope that's big enough, 'cause I ain't tubbin' it... too lazy.

Thanks for the compliment! That /6 is our race car... Here's my "sleeper." :) Supercharged 360 Magnum (10 pounds of boost) in a '72 4-door... Low 11's (yeah, the 'Stang was second to the finish line....) :) :wack:

    No Respect for Early-A's

Thanks for the kind words!!! Dude; I'd love to show you the car in person! We have been working on it for three years, straight, and I think it's gettin' close to being ready to race. It was a rusty, filthy relic, totally worn-out, when we got it; nothing (except the steering box) that moves...

    No Respect for Early-A's

Some of you guys might like our car.... '64 Valiant /6. This is our generation II A body... 4-door, turbocharged slant six/904/8.75 rear end with Cal Tracs, fiberglass hood, and bucket seats. Jusr weighed it: 2,680 pounds ready-to-race. But, our FABO friend Aaron (srixon4406) , has an...

    considering swapping my \6\ for a \8/

One thing to consider; drool tube heads make it possible to remove the lifters with the head still on the car... a plus if you ever want to swap cams. Drool tubes usually don't leak if the seals (O-rings?) are fresh.

    Firewall plugs; '64 A Body

I wanted to thank you for your VERY nice offer to send me a couple of these; that was extremely considerate of you!!! I was lucky to find a place that has new ones in stock, and since our car is freshly painted, I thought some new ones would be in order IF I could find some... I did...

    Firewall plugs; '64 A Body

I called the place in your post and they have them, so I ordered two new ones. Thank you so much for the GREAT information; I'd never heard of that place, but they have an impressive catalog, and were very helpful!!! That's what I love about FABO... tons of great information.

    Firewall plugs; '64 A Body

Anybody know of a source for new rubber firewall grommets for a '64 Valiant? I am referring to the two (one on each side of the firewall,) near the area where the hood rests. They are plugged into the vertical surface of the firewall, are about 2 inches long (just a guess) and are rounded on...

    What Happened?

Pull your battery cables off and clean the terminals and inside the cable ends, and you may find that oxidation was causing your problem. The conections at the staarter and block ground also could be loose. Gotta be something like that; this ain't rocket surgery...:banghead:

    '64 Valiant 4-door windshield...

I need a new windshield for my '64 Valiant race car; All the local automotive glass places here say it's going to cost an arm and a leg to get a new one shipped from their supplier of the West coast to here (central Arkansas.) Anyone here got a used one for sale? Doesn't have to be perfect, just...
