    360 Married to A833?

Hi Mark, I didn't realize Scalloped referred tight pressure plate mounting – learned something new today. The original clutch on the 273 Commando Barracuda was also built that way to increase clutch plate surface area but no one ever referred to it as a scalloped clutch. However, I assure you...

    360 Married to A833?

I also had to chop my input shaft because the 360 crank wasn’t drilled deep enough; chopping up a freshly built 833 will make you pucker a little. “You can upgrade the clutch to a 10" scalloped pressure plate” Pedal pressure of the scalloped pressure plate is very stiff and difficult to...

360 build on a budget. Opinions????

I would build up the block stock (for now) and get a set of headers to replace the stock manifolds. Building up the motor only to choke its ability to get rid of spent gases is never a good idea. R/T heads on your motor might be a good idea too, if you can salvage a set, they breathe better. Cam...

Are all 360's balanced the same?

318's were built with both forged and cast cranks (internally and externally balanced) 360's were only built with cast cranks (externally balanced)

Are all 360's balanced the same?

A 360 Magnum motor requires a specially balanced flex plate or flywheel. I believe the one you are looking at (Beginning Year 1971 - Ending Year 1983) is for LA motor, you should be OK if your motor is not a later (Magnum) 360. BTW - Summit is VERY forgiving if you make a mistake. They...

    360 accessory mounting question

I do not have Power Steering but here are my alternator photos. I had to salvage pullies from the Junk yard and I used the Junk yard motors as a guide. Here is how it came out. I wanted to reuse my old 273 setup but the R/T heads would not accept the 273 hardware.

    Engine Install Problem!

Hi Fast Fish, Way back when I was overhauling the GMC clutch; I purchased a pilot bushing puller (it’s a lot like a dent puller) to get the old bushing out, It worked good on the Barracuda too. I don’t remember where I found it, but was likely from Northern tools or one of the other suppliers. I...

    Engine Install Problem!

I had the problem Fast Fish is talking about and had to cut my input shaft, if this is the first time the tranny has mated to the flywheel could be the problem. Aligning the bellhousing is time consuming but highly recommended. The most difficult part for me was fabbing the brackets to hold the...

Small block keeps blowing the oil filter off?

I remember removing a threaded pipe and some type of metal plate when I installed the 90 degree adapter. But I don’t remember a gasket. I thought there was a metal flange on the block that mated with the gasket on the oil filter to seal it. A picture of what you actually have would help here a lot.

Need pics of early A body enigne mounts-

That’s what I did to install my 360 with stock motor mounts (and 340 too), 318 is not supposed to need any motor mount modifications.

    mopar crate engine

I'm just glad that one of the guys on the MOPARTS web board posted his problem soon after I got my car on the road. He drove his car for a while to break it in and then went to the strip to see what his car could do. He lost his engine because he didn’t think to check his oil level since he had...

    mopar crate engine

I posted this thred back on 6/4/07 "I spent most of last summer installing a new MP 360 crate motor and getting the 10.95 Scallop clutch to operate correctly. I have driven the car less than 1000 miles since working out all the installation problems and changed the oil 3 times. A few weeks...

    New crate motor woes

I performed the procedure to check for an intake leak this weekend. I removed the breather and the plug from the valve cover on right side of the car and used duct tape to seal the holes. I then removed the PCV valve and covered the opening. I the put the Vacuum gauge on the valve cover PVC...

    New crate motor woes

Guitar Jones was kind enough to PM me with a procedure to perform the intake test and I have a vacuum gauge, so I will complete that this weekend and post the results. MoPar Engines West emailed me and said the leak down test was a waste of money and time because: “They have had motors that had...

    New crate motor woes

You would think so - I have discussed Crate Engine problems on several boards and have had a lot of negative feed back. Many feel that all crate motors should be torn down and reassembled prior to installation. Unfortunately, I wasn’t aware of the issue before purchasing one.

    New crate motor woes

I won’t shoot you for two reasons (well more than two but ...) Number 1. I agree 90 days for a 320 Hp crate motor is crazy and I wasn't told until the transaction was complete. Number 2. My daughter’s car is a 64 Falcon I don't care what she drives; just that she enjoys what she...

    New crate motor woes

I have one Edelbrock breather cap on the left valve cover and a PVC valve on the Right side valve cover and I have found a little oil film around the PVC side valve cover but it didn’t seem to be enough to be concerned about. I have the M1 intake that came with the 320 Hp motor. I sent Rich an...

    New crate motor woes

The engine is in excellent tune and runs very strong (with the exception that the electrodes on the plugs are darker than what I would expect from a good running engine) there is no outward indication of a problem. There is no exhaust smoke which you would expect if you were burning this much...

    Crate Motors

I thought about salvaging a used 360 to replace my 273 (I have yet to see a 340 in the local junkyard) but that’s a lot of work. MP also now sells 340 blocks, but the crate motor made more sense to me. I did noticed that the Crate Motor I have ate a lot of oil during “break in” and one of the...

    Fluctuating oil pressure query

I am new to this board and this is my first post - I recently installed 360 MOPAR Performance 320 HP crate motor and my oil pressure when engine warm up is 20 PSI at idle and 80 PSI at highway speeds (haven’t pushed it to 100 mph yet). Paul
