    340 Rebuild Checklist

I'm not in a huge hurry on this one Dave, but I will post pics along the way. What do you think, post the pics on this thread or start a new 340 rebuild thread? I'll order the rebuilding mopar small block book before I begin just to double check myself.

    340 Rebuild Checklist

Several years ago I built a 360 and used The Block Shop over on Platte Canyon, they did a great job so I used them again this time. Just ask for Joe.

    340 Rebuild Checklist

Sure would hate to get any crude coming through into the bearings. I'll check into the brushes suggested and double check all the passages. Does everyone agree that "How to build a small block Mopar" would be the best resource in terms of a check list?

    340 Rebuild Checklist

I see that a lot on these posts and I respect the advice. At the risk of sounding ignorant I need to ask what it is that I'm cleaning? This block has been boiled, bead blasted, & jet washed and frankly looks brand new. If I am going to clean it again and again I need to know what to expect and...

    340 Rebuild Checklist

Hi Guys, I think I'm finally ready to begin assembling my 340. The block is done, the heads are done, rods have been reconditioned, crank has been turned, new cam, new pistons, everything has been balanced including the clutch and I think I have most everything I need. Does anybody know of a...

308 Heads w/1.88 valves at high Altitude

Thanks! Just when you posted this I was talking with a friend on the phone and he said almost the exact same thing. Suck as much air as possible through the heads and then manage the fuel mixture with the carb.

    340/drivetrain build advice

Thanks for all of the advice guys, I'm seeing several possibilities. There is one thing that we didn't talk about and that is the altitude where this car lives. I am in the Denver area and if I'm not mistaken that should have some consequences on how this should be built. What do you guys...

308 Heads w/1.88 valves at high Altitude

Does anyone know how the altitude in Denver 5280' plays out in heads? I know that we generally used smaller cfm carbs 650 vs 750 because of the thin air. Does it make since that the smaller valve 308's would work better up here also? I'm thinking the velocity vs the volume would especially work...

    340/drivetrain build advice

Not totally sure, I'm guessing 350-400 on the HP and maybe 12 seconds?? Sound about right? I already have a 3:23 limited slip 489 case rear, also have a 742 3:55 open. Wouldn't be opposed to swapping out gears if needed. Also can play with tire size.

Ya, that's what I'm thinking too. Good to hear from some Colo folks! I'll be watching for you in Golden this year!

    340/drivetrain build advice

I have a 1969 block bored 40 over, magnifluxed and ready to go. That's it so far, no crank, no heads, just a block. The car is an auto (727) and I'll probably leave it that way. I love the thought of a 4 speed but I'm near 60 and not sure how long the knees would put up with clutch duty.

    340/drivetrain build advice

I hope I have this in the correct forum. Maybe the mods could move it if not. Thanks! The Duster is here and seems to run okay with the 360 that someone put in it but, what's a toy if you can't play with it? So, I would like to build this 340 block that I have and drive a 340 Duster like the...

Not likely unless he took them out, that engine ran the way it was before he changed the cam

    273 questions...a few of them

The 273 commando engine that car started life with had dome top pistons to make 10 1/2 to 1 compression. The block that Steve is using is a plain old 273 with flat tops. Wouldn't that give him even more valve to piston space?

    273 questions...a few of them

Okay, I'm going to show my own ignorance here, but even old guys can learn right? Since the crank turns twice for every time the cam turns once why can't it be on the wrong revolution with the dots still being lined up? And wouldn't that make the cam 180 degrees out? Sorry, just something my...

    273 questions...a few of them

Here's another painfully insulting double check, sorry... Any chance the cam is 180 out? It goes around twice for each crank revolution.

    273 questions...a few of them

I can't help but think there must be something very simple that we're all missing. Just a quick reminder, remember those rocker assemblies aren't the originals for that motor. Even though they are the correct ones I wouldn't expect them to have even been in the ball park on the adjustments to...

Gimme your cam opinions for 273 ASAP

Steve if he's going this far why not go to Kantor and get the dome tops, put the original block back together with an original equivalent cam and make that thing run like it did when it was new. Then he would have a nice ride with decent power and numbers matching everything.

    67 Engine Mount Question

That sounds encouraging. I'm sure it will become obvious when I pull out the 273. I just didn't want to bring the engine hoist home twice, once to pull out the 273 then wait for parts and once to put the 360 in.

    67 Engine Mount Question

I need help figuring out what motor mounts I'll need when I install my just finished 360 into my 67 Barracuda. I see 'plumbcrazyfreak' has a similar post but being new here I sure didn't want to jump right in and appear to hijack someone else's forum. Is it the mounts I'll need or the brackets...
