Eagle Crank, should I buy it?

Looks like Mallory metal was added to get it to internal balance. When it's pressed into the counterweight like that it's generally welded in, but that looks terrible. Between that and the fact you have no idea what bob weight it was balanced to.... I'd say pass.

    odd stroker combo.

Or 517 with 4.250, 6.700, 1.122 and take .030" off the deck to bring it to zero. Kinda like I did.

    Custom Pushrod ordering

Trend will make 'em any length/combo you want. I have a brand new set that I can't use. I'll check the length tomorrow. Just checked an old post of mine....they're 8.970". Obviously, of no use to you either! Lol!

    Intake "as cast" port size

In case anyone cares, I started this thread about the Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT manifold and my wacky Chapman Stage VI's. Well, turns out the manifold CAN be opened up to the head. It may require some slight elongation of the bolt holes to slide the manifold up a little, but Mike at B3 Racing has 'em...

Share your "Low Deck Stroker" Combo

I like a long rod, so my combo's a bit different from the usual "stroker kit" combos. I have a 400 block bored to 4.402", a 4.250" stroke, Icon pistons with a 1.122" compression height and a 6.700" rod yielding 517 cubes. That combo puts the pistons down in the hole .033", so the block was then...

    Intake "as cast" port size

If the ports are around thecas cast example you provided, that would work out perfectly. Thank you for your time and effort!

    Intake "as cast" port size

Thank you for that real world experience Andy, that's valuable info and food for thought! Now considering that the only manifold I have is an old Weiand tunnel ram for the "B" block and the the stage VI's use an "RB" manifold on the "B" block, would it be advisable to make up a tapered spacer to...

    Intake "as cast" port size

That Sir, is extremely helpful and I thank you for it! I'm not at max wedge port size and won't be going there, but I am a good bit bigger than standard. From the looks of it, the XT shouldn't/can't really go too much more than standard. It looks like even at the 2.430" x 1.280" I'm at will...

    Intake "as cast" port size

Ok, in an earlier post I stated that I have some Chapman Stage VI heads that have a port size somewhere between a standard port and a max wedge. They measure 2.430" x 1.280". I was crying earlier about modifying intake gaskets when in fact there is no manifold that won't require work to match...

Somewhere Between Max Wedge and Std Port

I'll give 'em a look, thanks! Hopefully the "surprises" with these are minimal, but I'm gonna send 'em over to Mike at B3 to get 'em squared away since there are no rocker stands on these.

Somewhere Between Max Wedge and Std Port

Yup, it all boils down to my being lazy. Lol! I would never run the intake without opening it up and have every intent on doing so, but here I am crying about trimming the gasket. Probably should've thought it through before I posted!

Somewhere Between Max Wedge and Std Port

Yeah, that's what I've always done, but I was wondering if there is an "in between" gasket available or if anyone knows the size of the MP gaskets. I guess it all boils down to my being lazy and not wanting to do what I know needs to be done!

Somewhere Between Max Wedge and Std Port

Ok, I "acquired" a pair of MP Chapman Stage VI's, standard port size.....or so I thought. Lol! It seems the "standard" gasket is a good bit smaller than the port size. The port seems to be somewhere between a standard and a max wedge size. I measure roughly 2.43"x1.29". MP makes a Stage VI...

Pro comp Victor big Block Heads

Interesting....I was just looking at those and trying to justify trying a set. Hughes is running a pretty good deal on CNC porting and supposedly they take the Victor program. Could make for a screaming set of heads on a budget.....which I still can't justify. Lol! Let us know how they work out...

    440 steel crank upgrade

You'll have no problem with a cast crank at that level. Leave well enough alone in my opinion.
  16. Fast01

    440 steel crank upgrade

Yes, but you'll have to have the assembly re-balanced and change over to a neutral balance damper, flexplate/converter/flywheel, as the steel cranks are generally internally balaced, while the cast are external. Hence the need to change the damper/flexplate etc.

Blueprint 493" 440 crate motor. Anyone gave experience with this!

Carolina Machine doesn't have cores. They will find one if you're serious, but it takes time. They went through something like 8 or 9 blocks before they found me one they would use.

    Plenum Volume

Ok, now you're confusing me. The Weiand is, from what i could find, is 549 cubes. I rough measured at 522, so it's in that neighborhood. I have no idea what the indy is, but like I said, it may still be a better way to go for me and will likely perform better.

    Plenum Volume

Not just plenum, but total volume. Still, pretty funky that it's right at the volume I'm looking for. Anyway, don't rule it out just yet Rob. It may still be more economical money wise and tome wise, to get the indy and modify it to suit my needs......I'll let you know.

    Plenum Volume

In case anyone besides me actially cares, i found somewhere on the net that the Weiand tunnel ram (I have already) has a total volume of 549 cubic inches. Well, i went out to the garage and took sime very rough measurements and came up with approximately 522 cubic inches. Just found it...

    Plenum Volume

Hey Rob! I'm not familiar with the runner shape of that manifold, but in figuring runner volume you can get close using the L*W*H for a rectangular runner, 3.14*Radius squared*H for a round runner and 4/3*3.14*R1*R2*R3 for an oval. Obviously the curvature and taper of the runner will be...

    Plenum Volume

Garry, Yes, that helps a ton, thank you! I'm glad I'm thinking in somewhat the right direction. I understand the trade off with the velocity issue and figure if i can get on the low side of my displacement I shouldn't hurt velocity too much and can then fine tune with spacers if needed. I think...

    Plenum Volume

Lol! The 10 inch tall comment was a joke. The point was, for arguement's sake, a spacer with a 5x5 opening at 2" tall, you're gaining 50 cubic inches of volume (LxWxH=volume) times 2 is 100 cubic inches gained. That's all fine and good if the original volume is in the ballpark. Now again, I'm...

    Plenum Volume

I'm not too concerned about height and have always run some sort if spacer, but there's only so much volume to be gained by adding a spacer without it being 10 inches tall. Lol! The spacers are definitely a good tuning tool, but there's only so far you can go with 'em. In doing some research and...

    Plenum Volume

Does anyone know the plenum volume if the Indy big block tunnel ram? From what I'm reading, it seems to be a bit small and benefits significantly from spacers. I'm on the fence with buying one and really don't want to have to apply bandaid fixes to make it work. Thanks!

Weiand Hi-Ram or Indy Tunnel Ram

Ok, I'm changing my motor over from throttle body injection to multi point. There are no injection manifolds available for the "B" block except the Indy single plane, but I understand my Victor 383 is better out of the box. This leaves me to convert what I have on hand. I'm looking for some...
