Super tuning car runs good shooting for great

Make DAM sure the journals are round & also make triple sure of your bearing clearance! The old school way of poor boy crank polishing is to wrap some 1000 grit sand paper around the journal. (With lube) then wrap an old leather shoe lace around the paper & pull back and forth a few times. Its...

Man thats shi..y! Please let us know what is found. Im guessing piston pin or rod bearing. Did you ever yank the plug wire off the offending cylinder to see if it changed it at all?

Has your oil psi changed at all from start of all thos? Slightly less oil psi (due to possable increased clearance in rod bearing) would be another clue to say rod bearing/s. If it was a wrist pin oil psi wouldn't change at all. Any shiny ness to the engine oil at all?

OTE="AJ/FormS, post: 1971754495, member: 33537"]comments inside the quote Yeah marine pistons are pretty sloppy in the holes, lol. The first time I ever took an outboard engine apart, I was very surprised that so much could be normal. Old air-cooled sled engines were set sloppy-loose too. And I...

The last time I heard noise like that (3 cyl two stroke outboard mercury) it turned out to be piston slap. At idle was quite off idle at about 1500 on up accelerating could here it no problom. Also could here it decelerating until back at idle again. I figured it was #1 due to scoffed piston...

I have most definitely seen the converter lugs broken off before a hand full of times! (Even though it don't sound like the issue yer having) mostly due to improper installation of the converter. Some will run for a while then snap off others just snap off at the 1st hit of the key.

    Difference in 273

There was no 4bbl 273's made in 1968. The 340 was born.

    Difference in 273

No diffrence between 2bbl & 4bbl cylinder heads themselves. Other than springs & 1964-65 had smaller intake bolts and a bit diffrent angle. Otherwise heads were same between 2bbl & 4bbl.

Well that would for sure eliminate the noise from the engine or not id think.

I know id be a pain in the butt. But can you bolt up a flywheel bell housing & starter to isolate tje transmission all together? If you have any that stuff available?

Again, if the "Windows" in the converter hub are excessively big a 1/4 inch slop in them will look like about 2 inches out at the end of the converter. A good reputable t.c. builder will use hardened narrow as possible window drive hubs. Had a buddy not get it seated all the way once. It busted...

The bigger the slots in the pump drive hub the more it has that slop. Its normal for that once started & making pressure its loaded one way only.

    273 valvetrain question

Now yer talken!!! ya wont regret the higher compression piston's at all! it make s a HUGE difference with our small displacement little 273's! you will more than likely have a 91 octane at best motor now. but it will run good! What pistons were in there to begin with? unless you have a loose...

    273 vs 318

Whatca talken a boot ? LOL! Cudaguy6, yeah 650 is pushing it for a mild combo. Id be perfect for steep gears & healthy camshaft. I just (today) got my quick fuel HR 450 cfm mech secondary carb dialed in & the throttle response is sweet! & pulls harder rite into the rev limiter a whole lot...

    273 vs 318

1964-1965 273 were theonl yones that had a (small) diffrent crank register. The rest were the sameas 318.

    Small block combo suggestions

Yes slow the rate of advance! All in by 2300 is pretty aggressive for 3.55 gears! More like by 3000 rpm. A wide band is a great tuning tool aswell. Im sure it surges some with aalmost all timing in at 2200 & a slight load.

    360 in An A100 Build: Carb+Intake Choice

Another vote for the iron themoquad intake! there a dam good intake its just heavy & rhe tq is also a good carb even better once its dialed in! As a side note, if you want the torque curve in a little sooner put 1.5 rockers on the exhaust valves & 1.6's one the intake valves. I personally tried...

    273 vs 318

The 318 & 4bbl 273 are close because (for whatever reason) chrysler never hopped up the teener. They share the same valve train & head design. But the 273 got more squeeze & little larger cam. And compaired to the 340 not even same playing feild.larger camshaft yet, bigger valves, bigger ports...

    273 vs 318

Ive had both, my current 273 would spak my old 76 318 that was in my old dart. BUT not really a fair comparison eather. The 318 had lower compression raito vs my 273. Now give the 318 equal ammout of compression & closed chamber heads. & im sure the 318 would have an edge. Mainly in the lower...

    318 camshaft

As aj/forms said the longer duration of a cam you install it will give the "choppy" idling your after. BUT with nothing else changed to work with it (I.e. looser converter, steeper rear gearing & carb mods) I can promise it will be slower off the line than it is now to be brutally honest. Been...

Weiand #8007 intake on a 273 (Several questions)

Fair but ya dont have a low compression 273 eather is my point my friend! there's a hell of a diffrence between your 360 & his 273 or any 273 for that matter!
  25. Hipo65

Weiand #8007 intake on a 273 (Several questions)

As I mentioned before hes not swapping everything at once! Also going to have a VERY hard time finding anyone that will build him a looser converter for his early small/corse spline 904! Sure from 30 punch any & all transition air flow probloms will behind that rpm easily. I don't know of many...

Weiand #8007 intake on a 273 (Several questions)

If he slaps that 750 DP on with what ever hwy gear he combined with STOCK converter has now with a even a decent dual plane & even headers it WILL be a ball less wonder off the line!!!!!!!!! Ever hear of volicty? & hurting it at LOW RPM? Been there! Done that! On a low compression 318! If he...

Weiand #8007 intake on a 273 (Several questions)

1965 a bodies are a pain in the butt to get stuff rite. There the last year of alot of stuff. Small pilot converter/corse spline. Ball & trunion output shaft are just a few. I have a converter I had ptc build for my old automatic 1965 904 its not crazy (didn't want a real loose one eather!!!)...

He also said (tight budget) my converter was a custom built by precision torque converter. Hands down best 700 bucks I ever spent! Hed have tp have crazzy steep gear to avoid a converter with the 750 (like 4.56or even more ive had 4.56's & worked best with 4.10's! Good luck getting a corse...

Ah I do believe YOU recommend the 280º seat duration cam!^^^& Yes my old DRAG CAR dart had 4:10's & wait for it------ a non stock 3800 flash stall converter built for the car. It also had 10.2 c.r with .245/.247 duration @ .050 750 race demon tuned on a .030 over 340. It responded great to the...
