    Looking for a decent creeper

I'll tell you what.... Nothing says I've made the big time like a hunk of carpeting on the garage floor saved from a house recarpeting job. Sometimes it makes me want to take a nap under there and it's warm in the winter too..

    A833 trans jack

Right on! I bought a cuda October 1979 and got a part time job in a Sears garage to pay for resto parts and tools. I got 50% off tools because I worked in the garage. I bought 2 other jacks just like it for friends. Knock on wood but I've never ever had to add any oil.

    Looking for a decent creeper

I bought a Quick Jack over the winter that can raise a car 24". Ok, great, but the frames block most of the side access. I was removing and replacing a 4 speed trans which was its first big job. I bought the $30 6 wheel Harbor Freight creeper because I needed to approach from the front and...

    Engine Support

I recently pulled the trans out of my 64. I used a 2 x 6 x 57" long piece of wood. A 2 x 4 would be strong enough but I happened to have this on hand. The rest of the hardware I bought at TSC for under $10. The turnbuckle makes it easy to adjust the angle of the bellhousing face until the oil...

    A833 trans jack

I recently needed to pull the 4 speed to take care of a couple things. I keep the 64 at a female friend's house so I'm constantly shuttling tools back and forth and work alone. A couple decades ago someone gave me a trans jack adapter that takes the place of a floor jack saddle. I was never...

    Front load washers....

Female friend let's me keep my 64 in her garage. Her old washer that came with the house quit and she wanted new ones. We went appliance shopping and I suggested we stack them and get new storage. These LG units are very large capacity and the dryer is HUGE. Notice one control knob is white and...

Finally finished building my drivetrain dolly

Nice job Matt! I think your cars are just an excuse to make stuff.

How do you store your "stuff"...

Many years ago I went to a place that sold used office and factory equipment. They had industrial shelving and I bought 3 or 4 for about $30 each. The corner posts are HD angles and the shelves attach with short 1/4-20 screws and nuts. They are in my basement and full of parts, tools and other...

    SERVICE MANUAL

My dad was a Mopar guy. His favorite all time car was his 40 Plymouth convertible. Back in the 60's, there was a mail-in card in the owners manuals and he would religiously send in the $5 and the FSM would show up soon after. So I have his 61 Valiant, 63, 67 and 73 Dodge original manuals. Then I...

    Nitrile gloves, or better alternatives?

I'm not glove guy either. Those goofy guys that host the auto shows can't seem to do anything unless they're sheathed. But other than nitrite for oil changes and the like, I started buying a glove at Home Depot for about $5 each. It seems to be fabric based with a coating on the working...

Does anyone have experience with these two brake tools from Eastwood?

Not all brake lines are reproduced. Those are good for stock type restos but if you get into custom brake lines for aftermarket brakes or hot rods, you are on your own. I gave a complete set of brake and fuel lines for a 69 cuda to Finelines about 20 years ago to use as patterns because they...

Best for cleaning concrete shop floor

Can't help with the rust stains but....... As soon as possible after spilling oil, gear lube, whatever, I sop it up with paper towels, then spray it with brake cleaner and dab it again with paper towels. Not 100% clean but it helps a lot.

    spot weld cutter?

I used the Blair cutter with the spring-loaded center point. It looks like a mini woodworking hole cutter. Circular with teeth along the cutting edge. Locate the spot welds, (sometimes using a light grinding pass or roloc scotch-brite pad), center punch the center of the weld, drill using the...

    rotisserie who needs one?

Yeah I love welding and sparks in my shoes. But you might check into buying a welding jacket or sleeves. I made a rotisserie before they were readily available. Scrounged around the scrap bins at work and bought some cut-offs for scrap prices. Like 20 cents/lb or thereabouts. Talked to the saw...

    How to cut aluminum plate?

Motor mount shims are going to be fairly small. If you have limited tools you can put it in a vice and use a regular ol' hack saw. If it was me, I'd use a jig saw with the right blade.

    old tool boxes

They shouldn't be restored other than checking the bottoms for excess rust. MAYBE pound out a few dents. I still have a similar gray box that I did in fact buy back in the 70's. I also have a fancy wrinkle finish black one that has a couple pull-out drawers in the front. I'd show a pic but I...

    gloves?

She uses Ashley Force fuel-proof nail polish on her toes too. :thumblef: I use mostly nitrile but only when using chemicals, cleaners, painting, etc. Best use though is when changing oil. Some of these modern cars have ridiculous oil filter locations and the oil just overflows onto the outer...

Show us your home made tools

Had a winch but no frame. Frame unbolts into 3 sections for storage. Not mobile but I roll the car out from under the engine. Pulling a 340 here.

    Need a blasting cabinet

I made mine 25 years ago from plywood. I bought a kit from TP that included gloves, foot switch, gun, suction tube, etc. ($95 back then) I generally followed the plans but made it slightly wider. I was doing flat work development at the time so it was easy to lay out the bigger hopper on the...
