Used Ospho also. Put on lint free wipe and poured some on it and wiped. Then used a green scothbrite before paint. Painted right over it. Years later no rust.

Same here with my old 71, it overheated and melted. Sometimes it died on me and I would have to jiggle the red hot wire. Ended up having the thing rewired.

Ok, my friend bought it from his cousin who didn't drive the car for sometime. Friend bought it sometime in mid- 70's. There was a lot of carbon to be blown out of it. And I know it wasn't an 8 3/4 cause it wasn't rounded.

What kind of car? My 05 Impala, with key in accessory position, I have to push in on the tuning button for 5 seconds, and go from there. Scroll through rest of BS until I get to the TPMS and clear it. I wish it was as easy as just pushing a button...

Good thing is you at least had an oil gauge to see a problem. When I did my 318 the only way I saw it was when the distributor bolt fell on the ground and I saw the puddle of oil. But glad you got it going, and hope you don't get any more frustrated. Good luck!!
