Can small block oil pump be replaced without pulling the engine?

I have a Magnum-based stroker and I will be replacing the oil pump in the coming weeks. I have a engine hoist on hand and two engine swaps for this car under my belt but none since the 4spd conversion (not sure if this is better or worse)... but frankly, I'm just trying to figure out if I can...

When to worry about engine noises?

Don’t worry. I don’t think that the engine running well means all is ok…do I have to say this? I wanted to clarify that there were no other obvious manifestations of the problem. Thanks!

When to worry about engine noises?

I definitely appreciate all of the help and input. Just for the record as they say, I have two kids in diapers and a job that requires my phone to be completely off while I’m working…with blocks of about 10 minutes (if I don’t run long) when I could talk to anyone. It’s not as if I don’t plan...

When to worry about engine noises?

I was able to take the car for a drive today and once fully warmed up, I noticed that when steady cruising at 50mph (2500 rpm) the engine made just about 43psi. When hot (200+F water temp), oil pressure dropped to 15ish at idle. Now I’m pretty worried about this. So I will give BPE another...

When to worry about engine noises?

Due to work and kids, it will likely be a few days before I can start the car again but I will double check my oil pressure. Even if the gauge is inaccurate, it's the same one that was hooked to the last motor and this one is reading consistently lower. Again, the tech I spoke with last summer...

When to worry about engine noises?

Lots of good suggestions here... you guys really have me thinking about the oil selection I see that on the web page. There's also a pamphlet that came along with the engine that listed Rotella as one of the acceptable oils. No way in hell would I pick this diesel oil on my own!

Not mine. Anyone in Pa need a race car.

That does seem a bit wild for a NA Mopar small block. Did they say what it runs in the quarter? With an estimate of the weight, you can do the math to calculate the approximate horsepower.

When to worry about engine noises?

My engine is running great and pulling hard but it makes some noises that I don't like so I would appreciate any input on this. I have about 1500 miles on my Blueprint engines 408 stroker. This is a hydraulic/roller engine, Magnum block with Edelbrock aluminum heads and 10:1 compression. It...

    Modern V/8's

They will still have performance oriented products. The turbo version of the Hurricane I6 puts out around 500hp. A worthy successor to the 225 /6 if ever there was one.

    Oil coolers - which one?

Thanks! Looks like a good starting point… How does one determine the size needed? Are they still useful without a fan?

    Oil coolers - which one?

Who is running an oil cooler? How did you decide on the size/dimensions/number of rows? Did you mount it to the radiator or somewhere else? Did you ever have leaks or pressure loss issues? Thanks!

MSD Pro Billet ignition- are these unusually "voltage sensitive?" Got stranded, looking for ideas

Just pulled the fuel pump, the fuel that came out of the pump has more crud in it. I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible to flush this thing out. The pic is zoomed in pretty far. The particles are tiny. The particles are apparently not from that deteriorating seal. They stick to a magnet...

MSD Pro Billet ignition- are these unusually "voltage sensitive?" Got stranded, looking for ideas

As mentioned, the filter element was rattling loose in the metal canister allowing anything and everything to get past. This waxy adhesive(?) appears to be the culprit. Some of the cracking in this material is from opening it up to look at the pleats (which had some debris). Emptying the gas...

MSD Pro Billet ignition- are these unusually "voltage sensitive?" Got stranded, looking for ideas

Well, I think I may have found the problem. My uncle (who has been wrenching on muscle cars since before I was born) insisted that we check out the fuel system first. Within a few minutes, a huge problem showed up. The metal inline fuel filter that I bought from Summit last winter was rattling...

MSD Pro Billet ignition- are these unusually "voltage sensitive?" Got stranded, looking for ideas

The Dart stranded me last night for the first time since 1999 or so when I had a ballast resistor go bad and didn't know enough to have a spare one in the glovebox. My best guess is that this is once again related to the ignition but for very different reasons...I am sure I'll be able to...

Pic request: your Edelbrock RPM Airgap all set up

Hey guys. I'm hoping someone has a pic on hand and wouldn't mind sharing. I'm sorting out two things and reference pics are a bit hard to come by so far. First, the bolt for the spring anchor bracket for the throttle return/kickdown linkage springs seems way too close to the carburetor. I...

    Usable power for the street?

Lots of good discussion here but I’ll add one more opinion- Streetable power is mostly about your threshold of traction. 85% of these cars are rolling on stock-ish diameter wheels which means that we’re either driving around on DOT legal drag radials…or we ain’t getting much power to the...

    Unreal intake manifold cost

The pandemic and rebounding economy are huge factors here. It’s a huge part of inflation as demand far outstrips supply. The other thing that was happening anyway is that we’re losing our edge when it comes to benefiting from China’s labor and environmental practices. As they tighten up their...

How to replace engine mount inserts/isolaters/bushings? Is fire necessary?

Guilty as charged. :D I have no special mechanical inclination only a desperate love for my Dart, Mopars in general, and driving as much as possible. I’m full of motivation but I’m trying to figure out all of this stuff in isolation aside from the input I get here. I am so grateful for this...

How to replace engine mount inserts/isolaters/bushings? Is fire necessary?

I stuck one of the mounts Right into my garage propane heater and let it sit there for a few minutes. Flung it out into the snow to put out the fire and just pulled the rubber out with a pair pliers. The first one took about two hours of heating and cutting, heating and cutting. The second one...

How to replace engine mount inserts/isolaters/bushings? Is fire necessary?

Ok, guys...just one more request to see if I'm missing anything. I set one of these new mounts into a vice (careful not to bend it of course) and held the propane torch on the tube and the rubber itself. Using a chisel, I was able to carve away about 40% of the rubber after what seemed like a...

How to replace engine mount inserts/isolaters/bushings? Is fire necessary?

Thanks to all for the suggestions so far... Just to help clarify, this is what the replacement pieces look like...so the idea is to not remove or destroy the tube that contains the stock bushing. The idea of using acetone isn't one I had thought about. I don't know for sure that the stock...

How to replace engine mount inserts/isolaters/bushings? Is fire necessary?

Before my new engine goes in, I am seizing the opportunity to replace the rubber inserts in my motor mounts with urethane pieces. I am working on the '73+ 340/360 style motor mounts that connect the engine block to the K member. It seemed like a very straight forward job and I didn't...

Not a bad idea. I may have to invest in a cheap exhaust system with mufflers so my stuck up neighbors don't call the police on me though! :D
