    Alternator and fan belt slippage

So true. The "bite" comes from the side of the "V" pulley. It made me think about the same problem I had years ago. I cured it by going to a wider V-belt.

    Alternator and fan belt slippage

Slippage is why everyone went to serpentine belts. I don't know if there is a conversion kit for that but it would solve the problem.

    Timing Cover Gasket Replacement

I use Permatex Ultra Black (aerosol can). Those damn cork gaskets on the pan are a pain. I use Brakecleen to spray away any bit of oil (after scraping the old gasket off) then install the timing cover using the Permatex. I do not use the cork gaskets ever. After its installed I fill the void...

    Playing Nevada's Smog Game

Cat, Cat, Cat! Mine wouldn't pass. In Co. pass it once, get a 10 year collector plate and as long as you don't let the plates expire you never have to have it tested again. I bought a cat from NAPA #15036, put it on, drove straight to the test, passed it, drove straight home and put it on the...

360 is slow now, please advise.

I don't know about all this fancy stuff but back in the day (....yeah, I know, I'm old) I use to just run it up to 2K and advance the dist. to peak the RPM then back it off "a tad bit". Worked back then but I'm sure the "new" methods are better.

    Spare Ballast Resistor

Hey George, check the original paperwork to see if the resistor was suppose to be bypassed. Seems strange to me to have one on that system. When I installed my Pertronix they said to bypass it so I soldered a piece of 16 ga on the back side of it to keep the stock look. Jim

What oil for my new engine

I disagree with most of what these posts say. Awhile back our wonderful government cut back on the amount of zinc that could be in oil due to that Al Gore thing. This includes Rotella which use to be great. Speciality oil used for racing (like VR-1) was excluded. Alot of guys run Brad Penn oil...

    Oil in coolant, engine sputtering

Best trick I know to check for vacuum leaks is a can of WD-40. With the engine running spray the WD-40 on the gasket between the intake manifold and heads and also between the intake and carb. If there is a leak you WILL hear a RPM difference when you hit the leaky spot.

    Gas in Oil Pan

Man, that would take alot of flooding. I would take a serious look at replacing the fuel pump. It's more likely you blew the seal in the pump. The're cheap........................replace it.

    Strange problems

Similar problem with my 350 GMC last week. Do what I did and replace the fuel filter. The're cheap. I took mine off and could hardly blow thru it.

Back off the timing a tad bit and see if it helps. At least that will tell you if your chasing the right thing.
