    The 8 1/4 thread

Also I don't know if this is exactly relevant, but grand cherokees up to 1998 had a Dana 35 rear with disk brakes the disk brakes swap is common/simple swap for regular Cherokee's with 8.25 and abodies as well. Regular Cherokee's are drum only. Jeep liberty's also came with 8.25 rears but they...

    The 8 1/4 thread

Jeep 8.25 will work if they are 1995 and older and most jeep rears are 3.07 ratio if out of a 6 cylinder (4.0) manual transmission or 3.55 ratio 6 cylinder with auto transmission. The 4cylinder jeeps had 4.10 with manual transmission and autos have 4.56 (very rare) And some came with 3.73 with a...

8 1/4 rear end gear swap

1996 and newer jeep 8-1/4 axles are 29spline. 95 and older 27 spline. Some 96 got 27 but all I have seen in 96s is 29 spline. If your donor rear is 27 spline then yes it's a bolt in for limited slip. Or you can buy 29 spline axles from doctor diff if it's a later model limited slip. I can't...

    A body rear

I believe the older 8-3/4 are tapered axles so the newer axles/bearings will not work. The (66) and older 8-3/4 are narrower but I can't remember off top by how much. Someone will chime in.

    904 to 727

I never understood why guys swap to a power robbing 727 over a 904. 904 built will handle a stroker small block and not waste power.

    Rearend width

8-1/4 is .75" narrower overall length than 7-1/4 sbp.

    8 1/4 or 8 3/4?

8-3/4 is gonna cost around $1000 to build, more than that if you don't have brake drums and hardware. The a 8-1/4 is fine for cruising. I would get that 8-1/4 and slowly build the 8-3/4 if cost is a issue. Otherwise build the 8-3/4. I personally couldn't afford a 8-3/4 a-body housing (going for...

    Whats everyone running for gears?

Currently 2.94:1 with 25.5 diameter tire and 4speed. Going to 4.56:1 with 28.0 diameter tire. Should be fun with 3.09 first in the 4speed. May run a 30.0 tire for street driving.

    Trac lock

I fail to see how lsd helps fuel mileage? Lot of guys racing with suregrips which operate off similar setup as a track lock..

    Trac lock

Trac locks came factory in jeep cherokee's and Dakota's so they are designed for street driving with improved traction. I have one in my jeep and soon one in the barracuda.

360 motorhome trans what needs done to fit to car

Keep the 4sp and rebuild it. If your rebuilding the 360 you can have it balanced to work with your flywheel. And use a pilot bushing from a newer dodge truck with a 5spd. Motor mount is relatively easy to make work. Plan on a better than oem clutch and pressure plate with the tiny clutch are...
