Time to detune my smallblock, keep gear drive and roller rockers?

Disassemble, inspect and reassemble and you should be good to go. With that said personally I don't like gear drives. They are noisy and can make life difficult when you degree in the cam. I understand and can see there use in a racing environment. Once again this is my personal opinion and...

    Timing marks.

Checking and degreeing the balancer especially an aftermarket one is critical. I degree every balancer on every engine I do. I had a customer come in with a new summit balancer installed and couldn't time his engine. Long story short the balancer was off over 90 degrees. Moral to this story...

Those rods are Pro Comps. Check the part number. Still cheap for H-beams. I would check the sizing and taper of the machine work tho.

    My 418 Build

Hughes makes good high lift short duration cams that work well on the street and pretty good on the strip. Talk to dave like Woodie said. If you are going to more strip give Racer Brown a call and get a real custom grind from a cam grinder.

What should my timing be set at to stop pinging at wot

Some of my customers use Price Chemicals Super Street. It's a nitro blend and even works with cats. Some of these engines have over 200psi. and no ping and in use for years. Price says to mix 1 Qt to 10 gals. but we have found depending on application you can mix to 15 or 20 gals. Alittle...

tryin to break in new engine, ruff idle

Still having problems? I have had many holleys have this problem and most times it turns out to be clogged idle air bleeds. Looking down into the carb., they are the larger bleeds towards the outside of the carb. Take your time and flush these out real good. Make sure you get all the crud out...

340 Cam Change - Lunati vs. Comp.

I've used Hughes cams in customers engines with very good results. Good torque and they will pull well past there advertised rpm range. Give them a call 309-745-9558. Very good people to talk to. They know mopars and there quality is spot on.
