    What is an A-body 8 3/4 worth

I've seen them listed for $1k-$1.2k local to me over the past year. Who knows what they actually sold for.

7 1/4 to 8 3/4 rear end swap info needed

Receipts on a rebuild are a great start but not a guarantee. You may try to farm out the pieces as many of us have done, but you may end up coming out of pocket for as much as a complete unit or more. I pieced together all the parts used & only bought the axles & U-bolts new but had a reputable...

    Help ID Tracloc

Called Cass this morning & thought I'd share in case someone runs up against this same issue in the futute. He indicated that the early powerloks units did indeed use a smaller bolt hole for an un-shouldered LH ring gear bolt. The older style Tap Bolts are no longer being produced & the fix is...

These are the replacements I ordered, unfortunately. I may have to try to open the holes up as described above. I tried to source LH grade 8 tap bolts but they are silly expensive. Maybe a wanted ad might be in my future.

Anyone have any idea where I can find the correct bolts?

Any idea, Cracked, where i can pick up the non shouldered bolts? I'd like to do this right the 1st time.

I could always grind the shoulder of the bolt down if I had to so it would seat.

    Help ID Tracloc

Yes, just setting in the hole. Will they pull themselves in similar to a wheel stud? Sorry for the ignorance.

    Help ID Tracloc

Sorry guys. the ring gear seems to want to fit, the ring gear bolts, however have a slight shoulder on them above the head. They will not seat completely into the carrier side due to the shoulder. I bought a new set of ring gear bolts, same shoulder, same dilemma. They drop right in & sit flush...

    Help ID Tracloc

I bought a clutch style lsd from a member on a different sight who said it was for a 8.75 back in March of this year. Went to install the ring gear and though it seems like it wants to fit, the ring gear bolts wont seat completely due to the shoulder above the threads. Something to me seems...

    U-bolts for 8.75 Swap

Getting damned close to pulling the old 7.25 & sliding in the 8.75 rear. I have the correct shock plates but need to make sure the U-bolts I get are correct. Looks like the housing has 3" shafts so are the correct U-bolts 1/2" x 3.25" x 7.5" Summit lists these (And of course I just ordered a...

    third member...repair

Nitro is the only company I know of that makes anything steeper than 3.55 for the 741 case. Might be the only game in town for 3.23

Jim, may be worth having a conversation with Bad440 (Mike). He's doing that exact work himself as I type & recently picked up the gauges to set the wear pattern. Just a thought.

Getting ready to ditch the 7.25...

10" drums will work just fine with your 14" wheels. Youll also have to oblong the holes on the shock plates if you havent picked up the 8.25/8.75 plates.

    B&M unimatic

I like the looks of that one too. Looks like a 4 speed if you glance in, I think the lack of shift indicator would bug me but I get wierd like that. I'd like to see pics as well if anyone has 'em

    8.25 rebuild

73, thx for the heads up on that Spicer. That's an excellent price for a new unit, about what folks ask for a used.

    Gear suggestions please

Almost overwhelming response for the 3.55's. I didn't even think of changing tires for longer runs & I've got a bare set of steelies sitting in the garage doing nothing but accumulating dust. That's a pretty good Idea. Mike, you did this swap, didn't you? Did you go with the sure grip after...

    Gear suggestions please

I'd say I am lean more toward performance. However, I've also learned the value of balance. Sounds like you had pretty fond memories of the 3.23, & wjajr seems to think the rpms of the 3.21's wouldn't be killing me if I decided to drive it to an event (say, Reno or Madera or LA). Hard to say...

    Gear suggestions please

Okay I've decided to start to piece together a new rear end to replace the 7 1/4 w/ 2.76 gears that I've got in my '73 swinger. i'm hoping a few folks who've been through this or have some knowledge on complimentary set up can chime in. I've got a 318 w/ 904 302 heads w/ 188.160 valves, bowl...

    which 8.25? how to tell?

I ended up just calling Randy's Ring & Pinion & just asking the guys there. They confirmed that although there are two different carriers, the housing will indeed accomodate both. Good enough answer for me, and I thought I would share. Now to find a carrier & set of gears.

    which 8.25? how to tell?

Does anyone know if any 8 1/4 housing will hold all gear sets, Even if the current carrier is 2.45? Can I swap in a 2.56 and up carrier?
  25. Saetun

    which 8.25? how to tell?

I went and confirmed the rear end does indeed have 2.45 gears which I know is the smaller of the two carriers. Can anyone tell me if I want to run a gear set like 3.21, will that rear end housing fit the larger carrier & gear set, or is it limited to just the taller gears. Can I use the housing...

help with 8 3/4, some questions

So I just want to ask, if I go from 7.25 a-body to 8.75 b-body is the swap just as painless as well? Move the perches by .5" and the wheels will just sit 1" further out per side? shorten the drive shaft and done?
  27. Saetun

    which 8.25? how to tell?

Going to look at an 8.25 rear from a '74 Dart tomorrow to replace the 7.25 in my '73. I know the 8.25 had two different carriers 2.45 and a 2.76 & up. if the factory tag is missing, is there still a way to tell? And if it is the smaller carrier, can the internals be swapped at a later time to...

    Bench seats & floor shifter?

Awesome. That sounds very doable. Thanks again Badsport. I'd love to see other folks that have done the same thing with different kits. And hear their thoughts or experiences. Any T-handles out there or other set ups that anyone would like to share?

    Bench seats & floor shifter?

I think that looks great Badsport. Like I mentioned, I really do like the bench. What are your thoughts since making the switch. Any advice or thoughts on the process or outcome? Is the height of the shifter comfortable? Do believe it improved your driving experience? Is a cable used in lieu of...
