Does it have adjustable rockers,if so adjust them. Pull valve covers and investigate. Bend pushrod,broken rocker,collapsed lifter... What oil did you break it in with?

I was hoping it was fixed already. Why would you pull the head and of course it needs a new gasket. You probably running 10 to 1 and drive it to strip.

I would not do a compression test without oil in it. And why are you taking it apart.

One of my fans went out on the 74 dart and I have not replaced,running a little hot. Fixing to fix steering column and then drive it... Got some race gas from a neighbor,been beating around the hood,fm1626... Holler if you need the tools above.

Oh what did it run friday nite. I got an extra coolant tester,leak down tester,compression gauge and air compressor ....just the long drive too get it.

When they starter was stuck,sound like it hydro locked ,fuel or antifreeze. The white smoke is antifreeze. I do not think you hurt anything. Do not take it apart till you diagnose the problem. Pressure test it with a coolant pressure tester. Radiator full and test cold and if it does leak down...

I thought it was always the machinist fault !!! I have broken more than my share of motors,always pushing for extra.... Oh well, bet that motor gave lots of miles and smiles...it will live on in another block. Some people just blame orhers... Glad it on the mend already.

I have been wanting to convert to manual brakes on my 74 Dart... All others will be manual brakes... On the shifter, stick with the cable. Glad you got some time to work on your car,good job.

What pistons you using or just overhaul 69 or 71 318? What Compression you shooting for? What chamber size are the heads in question may help you decide on which head and cam choice...

Be careful where you position each piston it matters. I guess the others never build a 318 w/kb167's...

Those heads are going to cost you !!! You tires are not going to last you,you definitely need some drag radials for track ... Congrats on get them done,can not wait to see it at track :thumbsup:

Maybe not what you are looking for but new timing cover from engine quest looks good raw and may polish up I put one on my 74 dart but I clear coated it and it came out kind of primer gray.....but I bet it would of polished up. http://www.aamidwest.com/enginequest/timing-covers/

Your going to need tires... Congrats , that is a sweet truck.

I would use the 1008's they hold up well even with a turbo....If you are looking for more compression just mill the heads the .011 difference, if you have valve to piston clearance.

Not a water jacket. IT'S a exhaust crossover. Closed chamher heads !!! Great score.
