    Classic Air Glove Box Fix

Ha ha, not looking for famous or YouTube money either one. Just hoping to give someone thinking of doing the job a heads up on what they might be getting themselves into. But thanks for checking it out. I wouldn’t mind a subscription if you feel inclined. Mopars4us on YouTube. I have a fuse...

    Classic Air Glove Box Fix

I just recently finished a Classic Auto Air system, and it didn’t come with a glovebox replacement at all. I just needed to trim about 1.5 inches off the lower rear corner of my original plastic box to clear the new under dash unit. The hole gave a place to put the ecu.

    AC installation update 4/12/2024

I totally agree, as I was thinking Gorilla tape, but I don’t have any at the moment. I do know I’m not pulling it back out again. :-)

    AC installation update 4/12/2024

All buttoned up after the removal of the stereo, ashtray assembly, heater controls and glove box. I probably wouldn’t have had to remove all this, but I had some electrical sketchies that I wanted to deal with while I was in there anyway. The Classic Auto Air instructions said to remove the...

Classic Auto Air #2 4/5/2024 SUCCESS!!!

I will likely put together a video for YouTube with more detail.

Classic Auto Air #2 4/5/2024 SUCCESS!!!

The only reason I would ever go there would be if I won a million dollar lottery, and I had to go there to pick up the check. I have friends in Phoenix that I meet at car shows in the winter. They told me I should get AC. Then what? Stay in the car all day? Over 90 degrees and I’m out, AC or not.

Classic Auto Air #2 4/5/2024 SUCCESS!!!

We have 40 degree AC now. Due to it being 50 degrees here and wind blowing it was a little tricky, but not because of the system. For one, it was slow taking coolant because of the ambient air temp, but other than that it went like one would expect of a functional system. Two, would be that it...

    Classic Auto Air update 4/5/2024

Third times a charm? We’ll see. First install was diagnosed by CAA as a stuck expansion valve. They sent a new valve, so I had to pull the unit under the dash to change the valve. After more gauge readings and jumpering the pressure switch, they determined the compressor was bad. They sent a...

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

Thanks for the info. I had to make a bracket for the rear of the compressor because nothing that came in the kit fit anywhere and I wanted at least three mounting points. Also, the way they said to attach the cabin side mounting bracket for the inside unit kinda stunk, as it said to attach the...

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

If this kit involved the alternator I would want the 2 belt setup as well. The belt that came with mine seems kind of soft. I’ll probably have to get a better one. (Gates)

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

They asked if I had aluminum or cast water pump, so the bracket may be different, but I show 0022-4 on the compressor bracket. Of course I am sending my compressor back, but this is the setup. Oh, and the bracket was already scratched up. They said they all come that way.

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

Maybe consider getting the add on lower pulley like came with my setup? It puts the compressor and idler out in front of all the other belts and dedicates a belt for the AC alone with good belt wrap. Just a thought. I assume you would need the compressor bracket for a non factory AC car for...

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

Have you considered an idler that runs on the back of the belt to help with the belt wrap?

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

Well that sucks big time. Any idea what happened? They told me that about the brackets, and looking at my invoice I told them someone is paying way too much for them. You could cut 50 of those out with a water jet in less than an hour. Belt routing looks great as it only involves the bottom...

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

Absolutely, that’s I was thinking. There’s no flipping way an average car guy is going get through this install on his own. One of the issues I had was there not being the available spacers in the kit to put the compressor where it needed to be for belt alignment. One would think the smallblock...

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

AC charge failure as system would not pressure up the hi pressure side. Unit comes back out to change the expansion valve. CAA sent a new expansion valve, and it made no difference. Now they say it’s a bad compressor, and to mail it back and they will send a replacement compressor after they get...

Another update on the AC install.

    Yep, watching that real closely.

Another update on the AC install.

I got everything installed, and my control panel built. Pay no attention to the unpainted screws on the panel and the hose hanging down, as it all has to come back out. I hooked up the gauges and vacuum pump and let it vacuum down the system for 45 minutes, and let it sit over night to verify...

    Blower noise..?

These old girls it is very common to get leaves and junk in them, and unfortunately the box has to come apart to clean it out. I did this with mine, and it’s not too bad. I lubed the end of the blower shaft while it was out and also drilled a tiny hole in the back of the blower motor so I can...

    Lucky Me!

Yes I do I guess. It really stinks that my car is this far apart, but it will be back and with AC. The wifey will last longer than I will I am sure, and she won’t drive it without it. I told her it would suck if my car ended up in the hands of some dumb **s just because it doesn’t have it. Got...

    A little progress today.

I certainly will, but it looks like it should be fine. Lots of belt contact on the pulleys.
  27. TrailBeast

    A little progress today.

I have also seen installs that the alternator was part of the ac belt path, with people saying they had belt squealing issues because of so little belt contact on the alternator pulley. I asked about that before I ordered the kit.

    A little progress today.

There we a couple of odd things about the compressor positioning, but nothing I couldn’t solve. Compressor, condenser and drier are in. Apparently this is different than it used to be, but no other belts or pulleys are involved. Crank pulley, compressor and idler, and it all installs in front of...

    AC Came Today

Now my head is wrapped up in making the panel for the knobs backlit with led lighting since there is a light there already for the old controls.

    AC Came Today

I’m glad to see that the compressor does not involve anything more than the crank pulley the compressor and the idler. The way they did the crank pulley it only uses three of the lower pulley bolts. You take out every other bolt and add the AC pulley. Heck, you don’t even so much as loosen the...
