    8.25 rear end advice

Some of the 5th Ave's have a 2.2 rear end....the housing looks a little funky, that is a quick give away if you are ever looking for 8 1/4" stuff

    8.75 Axle - 741 / 742 / 489

Too bad you aren't closer and closer to swapping in everything- just pulled a beautiful set of 3.91, sure grip gears (489 case) from a '72 shorty 1/2 ton van with a slant six. Got them up for $435 obo... http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/pts/3799750860.html

    Gear Vendors overdrive

My uncle has one in his Travco 320 that he bought new...he put it in when the thing was under a year old, never had a problem with it. The Travco should probably be in a museum, it is pristine

What the hell is going on with shops?

My 4t65HD was $2800 (good buddy prices), but it is built to handle the modified supercharged 3.8. It has all the good bits and a LSD, don't ever want to mess with it again. $1100? Wallet rape artists

    Synthetic ATF?

I use Redline ATF in all my rigs. When the 4t65HD had to be rebuilt (failure was caused by a glitch that kept shifting the TC lock-up on/off and wife would not stop driving it..grrr), my tranny guy told me that everything else inside the trans was in great shape.

CHEAPest way to convert rear axle bolt pattern to big bolt pattern???

Look for a usable '73-'76 BBP A-body axle. Most people just give 'em away or don't want much for them, unless they are packing a LSD (freak of nature, and yes, I do have one in my shed). Do a fresh set of axle bearings and seal and be done with it

finaly its back from the shop!!!!! (904 pics)

Not a fatal flaw to have painted it blue- nice to see something different and it's not 'stock' anyways. And I own all 3 manufacturers as well as an AMC Rebel hardtop SST, 'whatever' to all the haters...

How much whine is normal for a new sure grip rear end?

When you put them (proper lube in diff housing) down you should slowly/'grandma-like' drive them, slide-to-slide turns for a little bit and they should be quiet. No whine. And at low speed if you had a wobble in your driveshaft, it would be pretty epic- how you would not visibly see it with...

HOW MUCH for NEW GEARS INSTALLED?

Hopefully at $850 they supply the lube...for more than just the diff.

    8 1/4" differential

Found an '80 or '81 LeBaron with an 8 1/4" axle in a yard. I have heard that the 2.45 and 2.2 gear-ratio rear ends had a slightly different/unique center portion of the axle from the 2.76 & up had on them. Not having much experience with these rear ends and cramped work space (low light), I...

    7 1/4 axle splines

No- the BB pattern axle bearings are a different size, housing ends too small on earlier rearend. The whole rear should swap right in, but you can't just take the BB axles/backing plates/drums and pop them onto an earlier SB axle

    200-R4 transmission behind mopar stroker

I second the opinion- I have a friend who is a tranny guru and he won't touch them for any type of performance powertrain. It is the equivalent of building one of GM's "Target 350" motors...not worth the money or effort and will still puke itself when the wick is turned up:wack:

    Got my Keisler estimate

No doubt, Swisswill-a certain part of my anatomy is still sucking butter when I hear some of the prices for the 'conversion' parts out there...
