Torsion Bar/Ride Height Adj. Finger Rubs Frame

My 71 charger had/has the same problem. Originally they are very close as the suspension travels, and if the car ever took a hit over time, I think that is where the problem starts. My charger had front frame damage from a prior accident, and I just finished reassembling the car after having the...

    Lower Control Arm question

Yea, those are toast! you'll need to start over and install the bushing on the pivot shaft first, then press into the arm.

Your experience with FirmFeel steering gear box?

My 71 Charger box is at Firm feel as we speak getting a rebuild. I cant recall what they recommended, stage one or two.

    steering gear

I've rebuilt a few and installed the fast ratio worm gear, its a piece of cake. The /6 boxes only used bushings in the sector shaft, so I would recommend firm feel bore the case and install needle bearings. I think they will rebuild your factory worm gear or change to a fast ratio if you want...

    offset bushings

Consider this. 4 offset bushings installed opposite of each other would give you positive or negative caster depending on how installed but would cancel any change in camber. 4 offset bushings installed the same would give you positive or negative camber, depending on how installed, but would...

    offset bushings

ok I understand that, but that sounds like it could potentially give you a mile of more caster, and with one bushing opposite the other would cancel any change in camber. Im way over thinking this I know1

Im going to look into how that works! but I wont be pulling my uppers back off!!

    offset bushings

Well if it makes you feel any better, I just rebuilt the whole front end on my 71 R/T charger and went back with standard bushings. A previous owner rebuild had the offset bushings installed in either the front or rear only of the upper arms.(don't recall front or rear) I was unaware of the...

    offset bushings

Ah, now I understand. I was under the impression that if you needed or were recommended offset bushings you had some type of problem that wasn't allowing a setting to factory specification.

    offset bushings

Ok, so the "new" recommended castor/camber settings are for changing performance/tire technology etc... and are just that, "new recommended settings"! The factory service manual had + or - specifications for caster/camber for the given tires or performance level of the time, and the offset...

    offset bushings

What happens to these old cars that doesn't allow for the proper caster/camber adjustment of the front end anymore? I would understand that an accident would contribute to that situation, but other than that what changes?? The offset bushings were created to help with either caster?, camber? or...

    UCA Bushing Question

I agree with not having to reuse them. I have the front end bushing tool kit from mancini and it comes with the correct installation tool for reinstalling the sleeves. I just reinstalled them on my 71 R/T charger.

Good place to get manual steering box rebuilt?

They are pretty simple to do yourself. There are a couple places that sell all the bearings and seals you need.

    Frame Connectors

Mancini's are 135 bucks. Yes you can build them cheaper, but these are out of the box ready to go. A friend of mine built his own, and that wasnt just a piece of cake either, it was a "i cut it twice and its still too short" kind of deal. Welding them is actually easier then trying to drill and...

    rear leafs 68 barracuda

I know that the offset spring hangers move the axle forward around 1/4'' compared to the factory hanger. My next measurement would be the front half of the spring to the center bolt. The new springs may have a shorter front half compared to the origionals. Id say your shocks are to short and...

    Rear shock mounts

Anyone ever seen an upper rear shock mount like this? its off the 70 swinger and appears origional. its some sort of swivel type bushing on the outer side with the more familiar conical washer on the inner side. i cant seem to find anything that looks like it in the service manual. not sure if...

70 style factory strut rod bushings

I know its been hashed over a million times, but what washers are used with the factory style press in bushing? my washers seem to be way to large for the smaller factory style bushing. ive looked around and cant seem to find the "washer only" for this style.

largest tires on stock 68 dart

Yes its still on the stands. Those are suppose to be the increased ride height caltrac springs. Even if the tire does go into the wheel well i dont see it being a problem. it appears that there is plenty of room.

    are SS springs enough

Also very important is the correct length shocks, to short and it will unload the rear axle on launch. I always go with the extra long comp engineering. Pick the brand you want, just make sure they are long enough.

    are SS springs enough

No pinion snubber is not a deal breaker, but make sure your pinion angle is set correctly. I have mine set a little much at 8ish deg. My front spring clamps are home made, so its a easy mod that really cant hurt. I have never tried unclamping the rear of the springs, after watching a few cars...

largest tires on stock 68 dart

Here is the 68 valiant with the 275/60/15's just kind of mocked in place. the springs are moved in 3/4, and the "stock steel" wheels are ordered custom made with a 4.75 offset. 28'' tall is all youll get without moving the axle back or trimming the front wheel opening a bit.

    are SS springs enough

Fairly consistant 11.0's with mancini XHD springs, origional clamps with an extra clamp on the front segment, comp engineering shocks, the threaded screw type pinion snubber. You can see the spring wound up pretty good. hooks well with not many trick parts.

    lower control arm bushings

Yes, there is a bit of confusion on using the old sleeve from the origional busing, and maybe that is the problem. Mancini wouldnt even give me the option, it was origional rubber or nothing. On my 69 swinger 90% strip car, i really liked how the fit was of the poly bushing, it seemed to allow...

    lower control arm bushings

Just ordered the wilwood brake kit and most of the hardware for the front end rebuild on the 68 Valiant from Mancini, and found out that the poly lower control arm bushings are no longer being offered. the salesman noted that guys were having issues with them coming apart. Has anyone seen this...

    LCA bump stop clearance?

You really need to adjust the ride height with your service manual. Its a pain, but once you do it youll be happy. You can adjust a little up or down once its in spec.
