I think they are somewhat comparable. It was just a hotter motor of the dealership floor. Still very street-able and they made over 12,000 64-66 Mustang with them. Of course they made over 1 million 64-66 mustangs. Mopar was just strong with it's warranty. And used it as a selling point. IMHO...

64-67 HiPo 289 was rated at 271 HP (they made 489 '67 K-codes too). It only had a 90 day or 4K mile warranty on it. Commando 273 is rated at 235 HP.

Most all performance musclecars from 64-69 came standard with drums. Discs were optional on most all too at an extra cost. Drums kept the standard price down. Mopar did make discs standard on 70 Duster 340.

so you have not actually experienced the rear end skidding or sliding out ? this is just a worry at this point? sounds like and original /6 torsion bars and rear leaf springs. With 13” rims, it probably has small 9” drums front and rear. Does it still have a /6 motor? With those 185/70/13...

There low speed street type handling (like autocross) and higher speed track stuff. In the lower speed stuff getting the car to turn (under steer) can be more advantageous and easier to manage.

if the rear end feels like it’s going to come loose, that is an over-steer condition. DO NOT stiffen the rear roll resistance (rear spring or rear sway bar). Add more front roll resistance (thicker sway and/or T-bar) the video below is what happens with too much rear resistance at high speed...

Here is a non undercoating 63 Valiant. Looking down the underside of chassis you see bright spots where there is not full undercoat. BUT the wheel wells are still blacked out with undercoat for corrosion resistance, noise, and visual appearance. NOTE muffler does not have tailpipe installed...

This is mid 70’s Production line, but same process... looks like headpipes were installed with drivetrain. Rest of exhaust installed to body before mated to drivetrain. Very time consuming to install tailpipes after axle is installed.
