    73 Duster Restoration

Adam's emailed me a few times in the last week, but I hadn't thought to check the thread. Awesome seeing this underway again. Better him than me. I go through the same ups and downs. Difference is that I get a LOT less accomplished between swings. Yes, I miss the car (especially since I was...

    73 Duster Restoration

Rory told me he disconnected the cable because it was making noise. He had it connected when he first picked up the car. Maybe it was bad to assume, but I was under the impression that the speedo / odo worked when he got the car. I do have a new cable somewhere, just never got to looking into...

That was my plan. And flat black '73 340 stripe with no callout.

    73 Duster Restoration

Yeah, I've heard great things. I'll probably put one on the Ram when I get around to it. Or maybe a used Pypes street pro? BTW, those mufflers are welded on, if you didn't already notice. Sorry about that..... It was either weld, or get those expensive band type clamps (forget what they are...

    73 Duster Restoration

Yeah, really nice! As far as the exhaust, those are two chamber mufflers, so I'm not sure if the Thrush will buy you much in terms of sound. I'd ditch that stupid X pipe before changing the mufflers. But in addition to the better sound of headers, you will be replacing those home made 1 7/8...

    73 Duster Restoration

Soda blasting doesn't touch rust. I've got a pressurized sandblaster, if you want to try it. I bought it for the car, then decided I didn't want to deal with the mess. Oh, and I don't know what the deal with Evaporust is. I have seen the results on this and other forums. But for me, with tools...

    73 Duster Restoration

I don't have the numbers handy for the one I'm including with the car. But when I researched it, it was an 850 CFM small primary from an auto trans '78 Dodge truck, California emissions. Obviously if there is a better choice, go with it.

    73 Duster Restoration

It's really weird, but I'm more excited about this project now, than I was when the car was mine. I think at this point in my life, the burden the car presented (financially and time-wise) overwhelmed the potential enjoyment. This really was a good decision, both for the welfare of the car, and...

    73 Duster Restoration

Hey, I wouldn't mind cracking one open with you guys. Are you going to yank the motor before spraying? If so, and we can get a tow bar or dolly, I'll tow it there and back for you. Edit: Now that I think about it, you bartering the labor on the paint job makes perfect sense. Last couple of...

Oh, Adam, I forgot to mention that was a condition of the deal.... Just kidding, no conditions. I'm just glad it's in good hands.

    73 Duster Restoration

This car was originally a locking gas cap car (still have it). The chrome is rusty, and I really don't like the look anyhow. Rory got the cap that's on there at Spring Fling '10. I'm not sure what it's from, but he may know.

Paint for my '75 Hang 10?

I'm glad you've decided to stay with white. Value aside (since you are building the car to enjoy), I'd just like to be able to say I had a Hang 10. They really stand out, and I've never seen one in person myself. My car is a fold down rear seat car, which is not rare at all, but it still is a...

    1974 duster project

Potentially rot free V8 3 speed for $1k? That would be a criminally good deal in the northeast. You can probably sell the buckets and console (since they are from an earlier, automatic car) for half or more of what you paid for the whole thing. My dash pad was about the same as yours when I got...

    Restoration Oil filters

These are all great answers (I use Wix myself, cheap from Rock Auto), but none address the OP's question concerning period OE look filters for a show quality restoration. I know the attitude is that function beats form here, but it's the OP's prerogative to keep his car as correct as he wants...

new project sears roebuck jc higgins boys bike

Very cool. I'm sure you already considered it, but I would have liked to leave it rusted. Of course after you take it all down to lube headset, bottom bracket, hubs, maybe relace wheels, new chain, etc, it's tough to imagine putting it back together without doing cosmetics. Pretty neat bikes...

66 cuda resto after 14 years of storage!

I kept my high school car for 15 or so years (67 MGB), then sold it. Actually, I think it was scrapped. Made sense at the time, but I kind of wish I still had it. Anyway, looks like a nice car in the making.

    new project western flyer bike

By the way, a friend of mine did one of those two stroke Chinese motors on a mountain bike he had lying around. Pretty fun, and a bit scary. I actually began looking at vintage bikes with this in mind (he beat me to it). I wouldn't put one on a bike with old tires and rim brakes, though. I'd...

    new project western flyer bike

Very cool. I've got a first year (1955) Corvette 3 speed, myself. Flea-market fresh: After a quick cleaning, and adding some fenders: Yeah, I put that first shot there just to show of the '36 Plymouth. Not mine, it's the parts car for a build my friend is doing.

    Race Inc. 73 Swinger

Ha, my driver side fender is Tahitian Gold Poly (rest of car is Forest Green Poly). I actually changed that out myself, due to a dent. My friend who did the legwork on getting the car for me picked the fender up for $80.00 at the Spring Fling '10. I was going to pull the dent from the original...

    Race Inc. 73 Swinger

I know. My dad bought it used at the track when I gave a feeble try at racing one season. Paid $200, which was reasonable, since the bike was pristine. But I spent most of the time I owned it, riding on the street (with different wheels), and it eventually was stolen. Thief probably had no idea...

Hey, I just found this thread last night. I've been damn busy this month. Listen, I want you to feel free to borrow my Lincoln SP 100, DeWalt grinder, and anything else I have that might help. I'll even drop it off to your door, once I get back to connecticut, and empty out the Ram (long...

The pressure pot style blasters work so much better. I have not used either the siphon or pressure style in open space, but I have used both styles in cabinet form. There is no comparison. Whether you spend $10, $60 (for HF small pressure style), or more, the media will cost way more than the...

    Restoration Commence.

Cool, another heirloom and another '73 resto. Paint (and rust) looks a lot like mine before I buffed it. Not a lot of paint on those '73s. You are going to want to use the Ospho on non- finish painted surfaces (think floorboards, chassis, etc) and strip that rust abrasively. The way rust pits...
