    TTi Headers,What Starter?

On my '64 I have a typical mid 90's (for visual look at autozone pn# 17274) starter. It fits just fine with my SB, 904, TTI combo.

    Embarrased that I'm asking

I have done both the strap wrench and large channel locks. Either way grab the filter as high up as you can, that way you can put the most torque on it without the filter crushing.

    What starter to use?...Hmm

Not on all, TTI's can use the later model starter on a setup like a 904 or man. trans. with a 9" clutch but need a starter that is clockable on 727's or man. trans. with a 10.5" clutch.

    What starter to use?...Hmm

Some headers will not work with some starters on early A's depending on your drivetrain setup so I would look at what headers you plan on buying first.

TTI header clearence on a 65 Valiant

I have .920 bars on mine and they fit but I did have to favor the drivers side a bit when setting the engine in so they wouldn't knock under hard throttle. The main thing I have been disappointed with is the lack of room to work on anything with them installed. At some point I will probably just...

Glad to see you got it up and driving! Looks like it's in pretty good shape. Seeing yours up and running makes me wanna hurry the hell up and get mine driving again.

    Fuel PSI

I too would be looking at the carb. but verify fuel pressure also. Worn or damaged needle and seat or incorrect float setting probably being the two most common problems. Also take a look at the float through its range of motion, it could be getting stuck or hanging up at one point.

    What is this?

It looks like the old metal hose hangers we used to have at the auto store for displaying radiator hoses.

Just bought this what do you think ?

The main things I can tell you by comparing it to my original GT is most all of the trim looks correct except the engine badges should be the V-Eight ones and the location of the GT on the quarter doesn't look right. Interior besides the panels and covers all looks to match, correct door scripts...

    oil pan damage

Look at the distance between the left and right side of pan to centerlink/inner tie rod end clearance. If someone adjusted one side too short and the other too long then it pushes the link into the pan when you turn at full lock or close to it.

    oil pan damage

do you have the correct V8 centerlink? Or the only other thing I could think of is the tie rod adjustment is way off center to one side.

    Is this stuff worth saving?

I would keep as much as you can. It seems like quite a few more early A's are popping up here lately. Heck I would pick up a few pieces if I didn't have to pay half for a new fence this month.

    Broken Starter ear?

Most I have seen where from over-torquing, dropping during install, or not being seated in the hole properly during install.

Late model exhaust manifolds in an early A-body

Nice! I have been looking into doing the same thing to mine. I like to tinker around on my '64 and the TTI's I have on there now make it a pain to work on anything. On the passenger side do they drop right in or do you have to lift the motor up to slide them in?

Any issues w/ mini-starter and different torque converters

There are a couple different tooth counts 130, 143 and another I can't remember right now but they use the same starter. No drive gear change just mounting position is different.

Your opinions on what I should do engine wise..

You might want to find one of the 273 build threads like toolmanmike or Rob and pm them about stuff like the cams they used. there are some good solid builds on here that would more than fit the bill. As far as Texas? Strap a block of ice on your *** cuz your gonna need it! LOL.

Your opinions on what I should do engine wise..

you know I sure am missing the California weather. Out here= Hot and humid as hell then 14 inches of rain in the last 2 days!

Your opinions on what I should do engine wise..

How fast do you want it to be? The 273's can be made pretty quick and the only part that is more expensive than the other small blocks is the pistons really. As long as the motor is still rebuildable I would go that route. More compression, modern cam, 4bbl. carb. and intake, headers, and some...

340 Exhaust Manifolds on Early A-Body??

I like having the look and added power from the headers but honestly these things are in the way of just about everything you try and do. The combination of a cramped engine bay and trying to fit good flowing larger tube full length header just doesn't work so well. The steering shaft has to go...

340 Exhaust Manifolds on Early A-Body??

Now I'm really interested...... It looks like the mini starter would help out a bit and I wonder if the column outer shell is a little shorter (closer to the firewall) on a manual or floor shifter column? If not it wouldn't be that hard at all to remove a half inch or so out of the column near...
