More good advice here. My car does have a smelly interior from the rubber mat getting wet from below due to 2 holes in the floor pan. I'm thinking now that if it was really wet inside that corrosion may be a problem on the connections. Time to pull the guage cluster and have a look see. Thanks...

I see. So I may have a bad guage then. I do have the solid state voltage limiter for the guages, but haven't installed it yet. I'll try that and if I still have a problem, maybe a new guage will be in order. Thanks for the help. Frank

I have the same problem in my 72 Swinger that I just bought. The guage shows empty way before it is empty. I guess that's better the the opposite. My car has a new sending unit and new gas tank. Could the new sender be improperly installed in some way? Thanks, Frank

More than likely your voltage regulator, but check and clean your battery cables and battery terminals. Then check the voltage of your battery with the car off and the doors closed. Watch to see if it's losing voltage. If it is, then disconnect the negative cable and see if it is still losing...

Could there actually be a missing ground? I remember finding a wire on the drivers side floor that could have been a ground. Maybe something for the steering column. I gotta get up my buddies garage and get the factory service manual and look at wiring diagrams.

Thanks for the reply. This is my second cluster. The first one had the same light problem but no guage problem. The wiring looks fine, which is puzzling. I'm wondering if there is a bad ground somewhere. I just bought an air conditioning dash over the summer. I'll have to try to find some time...

I've been working out the electrical gremlins in my 68 Dart for a while now. I can't figure this one out though. First off is the instrument panel. The left turnsignal indicator is always on when the key is on. It will blink when I use the turn signal, but stays on when the turn signal is off...

As the topic says, my ballast resistor on my 75 Scamp slant/6 is getting really hot. You can't even touch it. Any ides why this would happen? Thanks, Frank
