1966 Dodge D/Dart ~ 'Mystery, Myth and Misconception'

Thanks. Just bought a 771. Got a huge weird threaded blind hole behind the carb flange. Thought it might be a marine manifold or a one off casting. Stout enough to use for a screw in lift ring.

    Valve spring installed height mic

Dragging up old post. Checking my height today. I had to cut the locks down(one pair) about one third shorter to get them in. Also had to grind a little off the guage threads to make the tool shorter.

One piece at a time-Johnny Cash

Every time I walk by that damn recliner I hear Takin it Easy! When I work on Dart stuff I can hear Can't Drive 55. Somebody needs to redo Hotrod Lincoln with Abody theme.

1968 Match Race '383 Road Runner' vs 'Cutlass 350 Ram-Rod'

68 Super Bee. 14.10 all night in pure stock form. Other than 4.10's and H70 tires it was just like Ma Mopar dropped it off. Was poor back then(still am) and just out of high school. 98/99 mph. Couldn't break 100 with it:( Wish it hadn't rusted away.

One piece at a time-Johnny Cash

Can't get in the garage with the WHOLE Dart right now so I'm trying to stay out of the recliner by doing one piece at a time. K is done. Got the LCA bushings pressed in today also. Painted one side of the LCA's but ran out of paint. Beautiful day here-low 60's and light wind. Ordered the motor...

    Sloppy monday morning build?

That big blob at the bottom looks like a dirty dozen up close. Was just hoping to get mounting bolt width spec. Also center for motor mount bolts. It has been beat up from the bottom side also. Couple of "chain tracks" in the lower side. One torsion bar was broken too.

Pic I hope. Haven't had much luck with pics but I will try again. The pipe is a driver/press for the lca bushing shown. Let you know how it works.

    Sloppy monday morning build?

Been trying to stay out of the recliner on these cold days with inside boring gotta be done anyway stuff. Trying to get the small block transplant K frame cleaned up. Under the layers of dirt and grease are the worst factory welds I"ve ever seen. Looks like they ran out of argon and just kept...

is this true about a 350 sbc vs a sbm

Don't forget that nascrap did the same to the Hudson Hornet. NHRA finally admitted(as the story goes) that they factored the Hemi out of pro stock. Also heard that GM bought a few 340's to see what made them so fast. Local story(mid sixties). Mopar big block b bodies were menacing the chebby...

    Scored at U-Pullit

After a long vacation and no Mopar grease under my nails I ventured over to the u-pullit. I was actually looking for a module for my Dakota when I spotted a yellow 73 Dart. Bad news is they can't sell the car. You have to cut it apart and buy the pieces. Did score both fenders($30 ea),rear...

    1968 '340' Barracuda vs 1968 '383' Road Runner

14.00 is about as close as it gets. Had a 68 Bee, 4.10 in pure(bone) stock form. 14.07 was fastest run it ever made. Didn't realize it until someone made one run for me but it spun all the way through 1st gear(H70x14). 340's were a tick quicker. Hard pill to swallow but they were. Would pull...

    How to plan...

I just retired as of Dec. My Dart has been sitting in its dedicated "shed" for 5 years. I have collected parts till the actual garage is a nightmare. So far got the springs moved and rear installed. Other small jobs too. To address your situation, first i would get a cork board and a box of...

    1st timers---Helps for you guy's just starting a resto

All good! I sat down in my garage recliner a couple of years ago to try to finally decide which engine to put in my Dart. Legal pad in hand I listed the complete/partial engines on hand. Had them ALL except for a 340 and a Hemi. Still agonizing on that decision! Best advice to anyone, especially...

    392 Hemi almost done :)

If a 392 is out try for a 426 Max Wedge. They were mean looking too. The cast iron headers would be killer also.

    Must have shop tools

You have a torch set but you don't use it? That is one of the most useful tools to have. I learned a bunch of new uses from working with an old jack of all trades mechanic. A big hammer, torch and small mig will accomplish things untold. I shake my head every day at the time I wasted for 25...

    What oil?

The 71 300 story brought back something an old time Mopar mechanoc told me 30 years ago. He said that the big block would always burnoff the top(5th) quart of oil. I looked at him funny and he said that the crankshaft picked it up(windage) and slung it up on the walls so the rings were...
