    Hemi 4spd Question

Got the T5, a modified bell housing to bolt it to. Finally found an outfit that sells a box that connects to the speedo sensor on the T5 and will spin the cable to drive the the speedo. The Hemi 4spd throwout bearing will work. Hasn't been a priority to do but this is the year. Now I just have...

    833 tranny

Considering you can get A833ODs from pickups and vans for less than $100, fab the adapter in an hour or two from scrap plate and it cost me $75 to have the drive shaft cut and balanced, that is quite a savings from the typical $400-$500 for an A-body A833. BTW, There is only one part that needs...

    833 tranny

Actually if the long tail shaft has two shifter mounts you can use it in an A-body if you don't mind a little fabrication. You will need to fabricate a adapter that bolts to the rear position on the tailshaft and positions the shifter forward to the normal a-body position (the front mount is...

    Hemi 4spd Question

Anyone know what the diameter of the sleeve that the throughout bearing slides on? I am putting a T5 in my Barracuda and the T5 sleeve is larger than the 23 spline 4spd I currently have. Hoping the Hemi 4spd is closer and I can either machine the T5 or the throughout bearing to work.

    Z bar positioning

The spring clip will local the bushing on the frame side so the z-bar stays in one position, the bellhousing side can slide in an out as the engine moves in the mounts. I don't see the spring clip in your photo but the relative spacing looks OK.

A-833 OD in Aspen... not the right one?

I have an A833OD from an 81 D100 pickup in my 68 Cuda. The only difference is the length of the main shaft and tail housing. You need to fab a custom bracket that bolts to the rear mount and positions the shifter forward to the a-body position and shorten the drive shaft. Depending on what you...

    4 Speed gear oil

I tried Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil and the tranny would grind on every shift. It lasted for a round the block drive and I drained and replaced with 80w/90 non synthetic and it was fine. I have heard this same experience from a lot of folks. Likely the limited slip friction modifiers that come in...

    Creating an A-833 OD

The truck (long tail shaft) work just fine in a-bodies. I have one from a D100 pickup in my 68 Baracuda. Only two unique items; the drive shaft will need to be shortened and a mounting bracket will need to be fabricated that will position the shifter in the A-body position, www.bigblockdart.com...

    Creating an A-833 OD

Nothing scarce about an A833OD. Pretty easy to pick one up for $100 to $200. They were in production longer than the nonOD A833. I put one in my 68 Baracuda back in 99 and have been enjoying the lower hiway RPMs and better gas mileage ever since. :)

    833OD into 78 D100 questions

The long tailshaft tranny is the correct for your pickup. When the front lever on the tranny is flipped tranny will be in the 1:1 gear ratio when the lever is in the thrid gear position and will be in the OD ratio with the lever in forth. I pulled an A833OD from a D100 for my cuda an the z-bar...

    OD Shifter Linkage Issues

The reverse issue is because you have the lever on the tranny pointing the around way, flip it. I used regular 4spd rods on my A833OD and had no issues setting it up. I later replaced the worn out shifter with a new Hurst Indy shifter that came with rods. This shifters rods had less bends...

Making a 11" flywheel work on an A body...

Nope, same 10.5" clutch as the cars an it was only the light duty D100/A100's that got the A833OD. The only small block engines that got the 11" clutch were the pickups with the new process truck tranny.

4 Speed w/ Overdrive Any Good?

I have had one behind an ~ 370 HP 360 for 45,000 miles now with no issues. I drive the car hard and have been to the strip a few times. The gear spacing is not ideal for maximum performance but its not an issue with a street driven car. I have run a best of 13.7 @ 102 mph with a very traction...

    A833 4 Speed Problems.

I would think that stuff would be a sure fire way of generating lots of gear grinding during shifts. You need to have the correct friction coeficient or the syncros don't work. I tried Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube once, I went around the block and pulled right back into the garage and drained...

    A833 4 Speed Problems.

Sure sounds like something is dragging. Have some one depress the clutch and see if you can spin the disk (car in neutral of course). It should move relatively easily. I believe the spec is there should be 0.050" of clearance when the clutch is depressed. Depending on year and application the...

    833 strength

Don't use synthetic gear oil. I though I would give my A833 a treat back several years ago and put Mobil 1 75W-90 gear synthetic gear oil in it. It would grind gears on any up shift or down shift. After a trip around the block with a grind on ever shift I drained it and put ATF back in it and it...

    Z bar bracket question

I am a little confused about what you are trying to say. Free play in the pedal indicates that the throwout bearing is not contacting the fingers on pressure plate. I think what you are trying to say is you can't adjust the linkage to get any free play. The bracket on the bell housing only...

    Wrong 4-speed?

Mine was whisker close but did not touch with the car going straight down the road but under cornering it would and would send a vibration up through the car. I nipped the corner off the offending boss. You could likely dent the cross member or may not have to do anything, it will depend on...

    Wrong 4-speed?

I have one in my 68 Barracuda, been there for 10 years and 65k miles. The only issue with the long tail shaft A833 in an A body (besides a shorter drive shaft) is neither shifter mounting pad is in the correct place to have the shifter come through the floor in the a-body position. It's easy...

    A body tailshaft

Unless you are planning a 440 that is much stouter than stock and will be beating on it the A833OD will hold just fine. Lots of 440 cars running around with A833ODs. The other option is if the B body A833 has both shifter mounting pads it can be used as is in an A body, I have a long tail...

    Clutch Issues - No Burnouts

I forgot to mention there was another issue I had with my car with the linkage binding under hard acceleration. This didn't happen all the time but it was often enough to be a PITA. The clutch fork has a spring clip on the back side that holds it to the bracket inside the bellhousing. On my...

    Clutch Issues - No Burnouts

Something is binding when the engine torques in it's mount. Have you checked your motor mounts to see if they haven't failed and the engine is moving too much? Also lube all the pivots and moving parts. There are kits for the nylon bushings in the z-bar, could be they are worn. Are...

    HP limit for OD 833?

Gear oil tends to make the A833 stiff shifting. The best stuff I have tried is Penzoil Syncromesh fluid. I would imagine the stuff Passion sells or the manual tranny fluids from Royal Purple or Redline would be similar.
