Plan on making a few cruises this year. they include a 60 + mile road trip from the meeting place to a Drag strip. My Dart has 3.73 gear and a 518. 325-50 tires 1410 u joints another project i'm working on has a a500 trans, 275 -60 tires gears not chosen yet. The question is would 4.56 gears...

put danas in all my drag cars. have either crushed the tubes @ the spring perch or bent housings on the 8 3/4 wanted the thicker tubes ( in the above dart) due to running a 540ci.

went back to an old post to find > Dana vs 8 3/4 both are 53" F-F , weighed without brakes Dana- 4.10 spool/ stamped cover = 97 lbs. 8 3/4 - 4.56 spool= 99 lbs.

doing it in car /truck. I just drop the valve body. use a couple of body washers ( bolt and nut) to pull the seal into the case.

If the drums are hot. are the brakes dragging, > back off the adjusters if the car has been sitting awhile, if it has bonded brake shoes, the shoes may have come apart, causing it to drag

swap the valve body as a unit some one does need to disassemble the valve body to clean it. there is check balls inside it

just support the trans at the pan , don't forget to remove the dist. cap, to prevent breaking it

has the valve body been out recently ? can you feel the detents, when moving the shifter thru the gears, if yes, the cir clip may have come off the parking rod
