Just like the little dog again..here Wego again..lol..The latest and greatest ,after sliding out a nice 8 1/4 i slid in the 8 and 3/4 SG THAT HAD BEEN GONE THRU..and the noise was pretty bad[see thread].i found another SG 355 and bot it ..Son and i put it in today cause he wanted to paint the...

So iv got all the tools,but does the new solid sleeve come with shims also..j

How difficult is it to put in..does it go in from the front[under the yoke]or from the gear side..tx..j

yes it does have a crush sleeve..stock 489 mopar.so it does have a crush sleeve and to put in a new yolk i still have to worry about this or do i just retorque[ to value ] it like a 741 or 742 tx.j

I picked a 489 case 323 yesterday but the yoke in it is done..needs a new one..i dont know anything about the 489 case.my question is how do i change the yoke .do i have to worry about the compression tube in it or is it a direct take out old bolt in new and torque it ..any help appreciated .tx.j

fel pro offers 2 diff gaskets for the 8 3/4.one book says is steel and one says foam.using green bearings which gasket to use and where..is there a schematic somewhere that shows gasket placement ..thanks..j

also cant find new gear set for 41 case 3.23 set..doesnt anyone make them for it..id like to use my old set but not if their trash..wont know till i get them out..lets see..w/e job...align f/e and r and r rear third member...whew..j

So lets talk shop here..For the person that has never rebuilt a third member or had one rebuilt, what is one looking at in cost providing a reliable shop is found.what is the cost for parts bearings cups and seals.then what is the cost for gear set if a set is needed and then what is the normal...

So far iv removed backing plates 10 x 2.5 from a 7 1/4 and 8 1/4 and havnt seen a pair without the 5th hole.I just did the conversion,the only thing i can comment about is to make sure you get the shoes that work with your hardware style[parking brake]..some of the early shoes use a round pin...

no not positive,but i sure dont remember the car making this noise with the 8 1/4 in there..but when i drove it after the switch it sure caught my attention..i was wondering about the trans being the culprit.supposedly this trans was gone thru also..that does make me wonder why the noise pretty...

No i had not run it before this weekend..it the whole 8 3/4 came with the car and i installed it..i have a receipt for work on it some shop supposedly did.from what i found.wrong nuts holding in axles ..pin seal leaking .when i installed it next morning a puddle was on the floor..so took off...

No i didnt take out the gears..the whole rear was bolted in..axels were slid in brakes and new plates and a new seal for the pinion..carrier [plug dropout ]was already in i didnt touch it except new seal and retorque a different yoke into it...makes noise under power and coasrting till i put in...

No,its a 741 case..i didnt figure on anything changing since its set up with shims..but i know VERY little of setting up rears..j

So after putting in a 323 sg a body rear in the duster last w/e i finally got a chance to drive it...NOISEY is the word..id call the noise typical stick shift noise..not a bearing whine, like an idler bearing but a definate constant whine whether you are on the gas or coasting...the noise goes...
