    Clearwater EQ Heads

These guys are local to me. Never had any high performance stuff done by them but have used them for other head service over the years. Top notch for sure and never had any problems.

Putting a 318 together and something seems wrong here (see pic)

I just rebiult my 340 and yours is correct. Thats a drip oiler for the timing chain. On my 273 it does not have the drip oiler, it has a bolt in the fourth hole.

    Water in #6 cylinder?

Other then the cracked cylinder it was sounding pretty good. Thanks 2 Darts, the heads were not the problem, the block is cracked. I am going to check when I take the other block in. Worse case is I end up with two blocks if it can be sleeved. Thanks for the help. On page 2 I have...

    Water in #6 cylinder?

Well it turnes out my block was cracked in the cylinder just below the ring line but starting to spread upward. This was not visible when I put it together and I didn't notice anything when I pulled it 4 years ago. It ran fine but had flettened a couple cam lobes from crappy oil pressure(im...

    273 help!

340 would be the better option if you change although the 273 is now slouch. I have a 273 as a spare that has been in three different cars. Just don't swap it with a 318, that would be a waste of time IMO.

    Water in #6 cylinder?

I am inspection these with my glasses on and I was either drunk or stoned when I cleaned these. Thanks for the heads up 1wild&crazyguy. I am hoping this will solve the issue.

Old gasket was removed and scraped but I was trying not to score the surface. Thanks again, all responses are welcome.

Here is a better pic. I cleaned it up some. I will still probably have them both checked. Thanks RedFish.

    Water in #6 cylinder?

Thanks for the response 1wcg. No head work done from me but thses are not origional to this engine. I'm hoping its a torgue issue but would it just be confined to one cylinder? Here are some pics.

    Water in #6 cylinder?

Thanks DD. I just removed the head and to my eye it looks ok. I laid a straight across the head and it looks good. Gasket doesn't look blown. I did chase the bolt holes. The bolts inside the head were much tighter then the ones on the outside. I torqued them per Chiltons specs and sequence. I...

    Water in #6 cylinder?

No I didn't Jeff. I am hoping it's the gasket. I am headed out to the garage to take it apart. Thanks for the response.

    Water in #6 cylinder?

Thanks RedFish. I am hoping it's the head gasket. When I assembled the engine I think I had to remove one of the heads after it was torqued once, (it's been so long I can't remember why or which one, just that I did). I need to keep a journal for these things. It sounded good during break-in.

    Water in #6 cylinder?

This is copied from my resto page. Any input is welcome. I am not a experienced engine builder, this was my second rebuild(first was a 4 cylinder Honda) which was fine when finished. I spent the better part of the morning yesterday searching the FABO search forums on the subject and i'm thinking...

    Priming the oil pump

Sweet! I am at that stage myself. My right angle filter adaptor was leaking bad so I had to stop the process. That and my pressure line was bad and gave me a nice oil shower. Line fixed and gaskets will be here today.

    Holes in hood

If the cowl vent pulls fresh air in then the scoops must surely do something. Not sure on keeping the engine any cooler but the holes in the hood are in sinc with the holes/slots on the air cleaner.

    Holes in hood

Yes, they are supposed to keep water from just flowing down the holes. Never had a problem with mine either but I am going to install when finished with paint.

    Painting engine?

Clean it good a few times with some degreaser at first and then finish with some dawn dish soap. Let dry and check it again for any grease. You could use prep sol after that but it is not totally necessary. Oh yeah if the paint is shiny thats on there you will need to hit with a scotch brite...

    oil priming engine

I was just reading that in MM magazine. R Bolig was doing it for his Valiant's new engine. I thought it was a good idea too. I might drop my pan and do the same since my pump is new.
