Big Block oil pan selection B body.

So is the ebay pan above a direct fit for an A body with a 440?

The weird thing about this car is that if it hadn't sat out in the rain belt it really would be solid other than the floors. But there are little bits of rust all over all the sheetmetal. The last car we built at school but I am not sure yet if this is a good car to learn on without knowing...

Hello, Most here don't or shouldn't remember me, but I was a fairly active member until about 7 years ago when I stupidly sold my 440 Dart. So......I bought this car. It is a great parts car, and could be put back together. It was quite complete really and the wiring wasn't hacked etc...

    400 Build vs 440 Build

I did a lot of work on a 440 A body. Didn't drive it much, but lots of time under the hood. The B series is going to be just enough easier to fit everything in there. I wouldn't say anything was super hard to fix on the 440, but everything was tight. 400 would be better. If I do another BB...

low comp 440 cam choice help

I ran two different ones. The one that I ran the longest was the Magnum cam. I ran it in a 74 Dart Sport with 3.55's, 76 440 with low-compression and a Holley 750 and SD intake. Plenty of snap and was mellow enough to drive every day.

    383 or 440?

One other thing to consider is that the 383 is just that much easier to work on. That being said, I would run the 440, it is just a little tighter fit.

1973 dodge dart swinger and 400/727

I used a factory radiator and shroud along with a factory clutch fan on a 74 DS. Manual steering and manual disk brakes made it fairly easy. We installed the engine and trans in well under an hour. This was me (able bodied male, a freshman with one arm in a cast and an 8th grader. The...

    Maximum power with Schumacher Headers

There is an article (either magazine or web) floating around where they tested both headers on one car. It was a late 60's Cuda I believe. On that car, on that day the TTI's (or whatever other header) did have some ET gain over the Schumachers. I think it was a case of the 440 being too...

Do you think this is worth $5000

Glad to know the engine went to a good home. I remember it being a nice buy. I'd like to have another but I am putting all of my $ into my shop currently. The guy I traded mine to got rid of it. Maybe it is on the board here....it was in Portland. Anyways, good for you! It does also...

Do you think this is worth $5000

I tried to sell mine in the heat of summer for $4000. I couldn't get $4k in cash so I traded it. I live 3.5 hours from you. That does have a better rear than mine. However, mine had stock paint and interior and was cleaner overall. Most everything worked and it hadn't been modded at...

    74' Scamp

I can't say a whole lot about the value, but it does seem a little high-just guessing. But then I live where you can get a decent driver for 2k if you look. I have done the 440 swap and bought the whole Schumacher kit. Nothing was real difficult, but everything was a small challenge. My...

    Lucky Me, Now What

I initially believed all the stuff about bad handling etc. My car was a 74 A body, subframe connectors, manual steering, rebuilt rear springs and CE drag shocks. Tight bushings and tie rod ends and the stock /6 torsion bars. With a 440 it was very driveable and rode decently. I did not...

    will a 383 squeeze in a 73 duster?

I am considering a 400 in one more A body. I did do a 440 in a 74 Dart Sport. I bought the entire Engine Swaps kit. It was too easy and everything fit pretty well. I will say though, that no one thing on a 440 was real difficult. But everything was challenging if you know what I mean...

    column shifter

I think on mine, which was 74 /6 linkage, I had to make a new mount for the bellcrank on the tranny side with a piece of flat stock and part of the stocker mount. It took just a little amount of time and it works good. Everything is level etc.

    440 Engine install

I just went through this. On the initial install, I was on a slab with one inexperienced helper and the engine / transmission basically fell into place. A cheap harbor freight hoist and a chain was it, we didn't even have a leveler. When I replaced the engine this last summer I was at home...

    3rd Times a Charm, Low comp 440

Wow........this is weird. I just took a 76 440 out of my car that had some issues. Working on a wood floored shop, I took a greasy runner of a 75 440 and checked it out. Painted it, and put it in. It has a magnum cam........ Deja Vu. I am going to get the car on the road here in the next...

    440 Parts

I know that the "correct" thing to do is to tell you to replace everything. That will get you the most internet brownie points! But some have budgets etc and can't do everything just because. I would not skimp on timing chain, gaskets or seals etc. Something like the oil pump you could...

    440 Parts

I basically did what you are discussing here. Just got it going last week or so. Picked up a 440 that was supposedly a runner. I tore it down, checked it over and replaced all gaskets and threw a timing chain in it. I discovered that it had a MP cam in it already, the .450-.455 one...

    fan and shroud options

I used a radiator out of a mid-80's small block truck and the shroud to match. Previously, I had a 73 Dart 318 AC car radiator and shroud. Everything went in like it belonged there. My engines were both mid-70's 440's with the passenger side outlet. Both radiators were stockers with no...

    Engine Swap Questions

I got busy doing family things today so I haven't touched it. I am sneaking out there to work on it here in a few. I was really hoping to drive it today, but things did not work out that way. Maybe this weekend..... It is way closer to being driven than before. ROB

    Engine Swap Questions

Bremeric.....I didn't mean anything bad at all. These cars can be frustrating and expensive / time consuming. They are alot different than an old 4x4 for sure. Not much room in there. Anyways.............. I got it in. Prelubed the engine, and did get it installed. Lots of work, but...

    Engine Swap Questions

I have been logging about 5-6 hours a day on it since my first post. After looking at it I just went ahead and pulled the engine alone. It went pretty well actually. My car has a column shift 727, Schumacher headers, and a torque strap. It was a busy time, but I think it probably took me...

    Engine Swap Questions

If anyone ought to know, you should. I believe we met at Woodburn a few years ago. I think it was you. I was buying a 4.10 geared 8.25 and you made a comment about it having run 11.50's and hanging together or something. It was a good buy and is in my car now. If it wasn't you, I am...

    Engine Swap Questions

Hello Jim, You have provided me with insight on this project since the start.........about 4 years ago. Thank you for that. After looking at it, I think I will pull the engine and trans together. It will take a bit longer in some ways, but I think I have a plan. If I work at home, I...

    Engine Swap Questions

OK. I will go and look it over myself today. My only concern about pulling only the engine is this: Will I be able to get the tranny up high enough in the tunnel to get the engine mounts up so I can pull it forward? It wasn't that big of a deal to put it in whole. I will chew on it. I...

    Engine Swap Questions

Hello, I am working hard at my own BB project car. It is a 74 Dart Sport and It has the whole Schumacher kit in the car with a 440. I have a normal kickdown set up etc. The car is together with a 440 and I am swapping in another 440. At this point the car is complete and running so it...

    Selling price

I sold two running when pulled / stored inside for 2 years 318's for $150 and was lucky to get that. Real lucky.......both ran good too. 440's tend to run all over the place however. I would think with it being a little earlier you may do better. Just so long as no water got in there. Just...

    BB 440 Mileage?

I am new to 440's for sure. I have been building it forever but never driven it or pretty much any other A body for the most part other than a short stint with a stocker 318. I am pretty excited. It should be getting its first drive this week if all goes well. The car has been a build up...
