I'm pulling a 5.2 Magnum to install in my 71 Demon project it has a ticking lifter in the area of #6 cylinder. It has good compression and burns no oil. The lifter starts making noise when the oil pressure drops below 30lbs. No noise at 40 lbs. I am thinking it's the dual roller lifter stamped...

I have 3 smallblocks in the yard, a standard bore 360, a .060 360 with a bad main cap, and a standard bore '65 273. Has anyone ever STROKED a 273? I have heard of guys putting a 360 crank in a 318 and vicey-vercie. Sounds like an interesting prospect. If only I could find a machinist (on meth)...

I went with the 340 in mine, thus avoiding the front end buildup. Allthough there is no "replacement for displacement", not hacking up the car makes more sense to me. The 340 is lighter with the same (if not more) horsepower, and will be easier to maintain. Just my .02.

Build the 340, everybody and their brother has a 360. Like you say the buildup costs the same. However, I like the fact the 340 is internally balanced. Besides I like the look on those Camaro guys faces when they ask if it's a 318.
