8-3/4" axle length / housing questions

Your forgetting about the space added to the large bolt pattern axle flange possibly.

Looking for options to do a 4” to 4.5” bolt pattern swap all around and brakes.

I have always upgraded to 73-76 A body front disc set up & 8 3/4 rear 10 in. drum with NO power booster, that way I don't have to worry about low vacuum at idle, go to doctor Diff and look what he has & call him if you have questions, great customer service. I buy some parts from him just not...

Those Running 3.73 And a TF w/ LockUp.. What's your highway Driving Like?

That changes that idea. I thought of doing the 8.8 also but with my gear set options I already have I spent more now for another A body housing. Now it time to pick your poison and enjoy your ride.

Those Running 3.73 And a TF w/ LockUp.. What's your highway Driving Like?

L/U will help about 200 rpms, who drives 55mph? I've done it in the past with 3.91s city and 30–40-mile trips at freeway speeds, if you want to take a long trip (Power Tour) have a 2.76 3rd member ready to swap in, will take 45-60 min. The car I'm working on now will have more noise/heat...

Part Question for Auto Trans Gurus

I have not worked either one of those transmissions, possible sun gear to shell snap ring, piston to drum snap ring? other option any of your friends playing a trick on you? I dislike left over parts, I once left out a torque converter after bolting up complete trans and then as always install...

Transmission, drive shaft and differential question

A-230 3 speed with synchro in all forward gears, will need same bellhousing the A833 4speed trans uses. Your 3-speed trans has a output flange with 4 bolts for ball and trunnion front joint driveline. You can find a 4 speed A833 with the same output flange, only made in 1964-65 You can...

Transmission, drive shaft and differential question

It looks like the floor opening is oval shape like for 1966 & up boot, it also looks like you could change trans to updated 3 or 4 speed and go with a floor shifter.

    1970 904 Rebuild

Just a few notes, see what the end play is before you take it apart and it can't be cleaned enough, do you have a stand to hold the case?

1973 904 leaking from bellhousing inspection plate

Do you want to rebuild it yourself; you only need a few special tools and plenty of videos to walk you through it

1973 904 leaking from bellhousing inspection plate

It could be leaking from a few places, remove inspection cover to confirm it's coming from inside the bellhousing area, if it is you need to remove trans and you might as well rebuild it and replace all seals. you also can have a crack on the torque converter hub, need to inspect.

    7.25 axle splines

Barracuda, slicks & nitrous is a great combo I added a 440 4 speed to mine.

    7.25 axle splines

I've never tried to fix a broken 7 1/4. If just replacing carrier you just need to inspect ring & pinion gears for chips or cracking of teeth. I've always just replaced 7 1/4 assemblies with stronger diffs so not to worry about it anymore.

    7.25 axle splines

Sorry my dyslexia kicked in and I thought the broken gears came from the 72-rear axle. So basically, you need to change ring and pinion with the spider gear case from the 72 into the 73-rear axle, I have not done that yet, maybe someone here has, or since you have both there maybe take them...

    7.25 axle splines

You can't change axles! only complete drum to drum assembly. Now upgrade to 73 & up-front disk brake with 4.5 bolt pattern with the proper master cyl with Proportioning valve.

    7.25 axle splines

Unbolt driveshaft and swap complete rear end, get large bolt pattern wheels, just compare location of brake flex line attachment. the 73 brakes are probably larger.

How strong is an a-body 8.25 and can you make it stronger?

If you put sticky tires on and try to make it hook up, then you could have a problem.

    tranny leak

I don't add seal softener for repairs. Unfortunately, you need to diagnose the problem first. A converter seal if leaking will be running down the bell housing and back to drip off the pan gasket, do you find any fluid in the bell housing? I despise fluid leaks on my cars due to what my mom's...

    cyclic drivetrain vibration

TCC- torque converter clutch. Sometimes harmonic vibrations happen at certain rpm' and load on drivetrain so when you shift into another gear it goes away or sometime gets worse. So that's why I asked the questions. Now drive it and get into 3rd gear 45-55 and hold the vibration then flip the...

    cyclic drivetrain vibration

Too many possibilities, when you say 3rd gear 45-55 is that with TCC on off or both? When in OD 70-75 TCC on off or both? Drive angle corrected, what is it set at? Sounds like RPM or driveline speed related. Can you duplicate at a stop slightly raising RPM"s in park or neutral and then in gear...

    Lockup 904 question

Since you have a hydraulic lock up, "describe" the conditions you want to control TCC lockup? The hydraulic lockup has mechanical control to disengage L/U like on Decell and acceleration just to turn it off you can control. You have the easiest trans to control TCC off. It takes more work to...

    Lockup 904 question

I have a 92 998 came out of a van it has the 1 wire going into the case, it's a small pass- through connector just above the pan rail left side near the tail housing and it goes into the TCC solenoid. I'm not sure what year it changed from hydraulic to electrical, have you had the pan off for...

    Lockup 904 question

You can use a TCC solenoid to vent the fluid from the tube. Drill plate for fluid in & out and T in solenoid to vent fluid out. sounds simple, I know you can make it work inside the trans.
  29. moparlvr166

    Lockup 904 question

Define how you want to control TCC? What you could do is the tube that feeds fluid from the 1-2 shift valve, if you add an electric solenoid to stop the flow of fluid, it won't let the TCC valve engage lock up until you turn the flow of fluid back on and it will work the way of the OEM design...

727 lokar kickdown cable installation help needed.

The cable can be adjusted correctly if you have the proper pull of the cable at the carb match the lever at the trans. Here is what you do, you need the bracket in post # 3 for Edelbrock if you have a Holley they have a bracket also, that should get you close then you measure the amount of...
