    98 Dodge Ram Transmission swap?

assuming you are talking about the 46re trans, the answer would be yes,but you will need the special adapter to use the old style neutral safety backup light switch in place of the newer shift position sensor that drives the lighted shift position indicator in the 2002 instrument panel.

    U joint difference 7-1/4 and 8 3/4

Mopar92, I just had my driveshaft cut and balanced (yesterday). The shop did not install a different yoke, they simply cut the shaft, rewelded, and rebalanced. I have the 727 trans with a 8-3/4" rear with a 489 carrier. I used these u-joints: GMB2111306 from rockauto, they have a...

    727 dipstick tube

Will a late model (94-01) dodge ram dipstick tube from a 46RH or 46RE fit my small block dart with 727 trans? They are plentiful in the junkyards (and cheap), and old 727's are not.

    Swinger driveshaft

I went with 48-5/8" as a final measurement and had the driveshaft cut and balanced. It was very reasonable for $80. Installed it tonight, it looks great!

    Swinger driveshaft

I crawled under the car and measured, looks like 48 1/2" would be good. There is a local shop that will cut and balance shafts very reasonably, I had them do one for my 71 duster years ago and was very pleased. Thank you everyone for your input.

    Swinger driveshaft

Thanks for the replies, guys. I looks like the safest thing for me to do is crawl under the car and measure. Everybody's dimensions seem to be a little different.

    Swinger driveshaft

Can anyone tell me the correct driveshaft length for a 1971 swinger with 727 trans and 8-3/4" rear? I am looking for the length from the center of the fwd u-joint to the center of the back u-joint. I have recently acquired the car an need to get a driveshaft made. Thanks in advance for the help.

    B Body 8.75 in a an body

I put one in my 71 duster. Really easy swap, all I did was cut the spring perches off and weld some new ones on in the correct location. New spring perches are available from Mopar Performance very reasonably. Also, driveshaft needs to be shortened, local machine shop handled that for about...

Need help for rear axle swap

If you want the large bolt pattern and want an 8-3/4 rear affordably, use a pre-'71 B-body diff. You just do not want the real old type with the keyed axles (pre '66 I think). You will need to move the spring perches in a little, and the driveshaft will have to be shortened, but other than that...

/6 904 to fit small block?

I believe the torque converters are interchangeable as far as 904's go (just not between lockup and non-lockup), so install whatever stall speed you like.
  11. moparman9

    Which Tranny Is This?

Being that "new" (1977!) it may have a lockup converter. TF-6 is industry slang for 904, short for Torqueflite 6, because the A904 was primarily installed in slant six and light duty cars, while the TF-8 (A727) was used primarily in trucks and heavier duty applications with 8cylinder engines...

mopardrt is right, you will have to modify. check out this demon with a challenger diff though, http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/featuredvehicles/a_body/mopp_1009_1971_dodge_demon_modified/index.html

re drilling 8.75 axles (at home)

I have to agree with Hyper-pak, its not rocket science. I think I would use a transfer punch as well as the wheel adapter. It would not be hard to get the correct hole diameter, you could get a new stud, measure it and figure from there. I would drill the hole slightly undersize and ream to...

    Jeep Cherokee 8 1/4 to an A body ?

Moparjoe, Will the disc brake setup from explorer 8.8's bolt on to the ranger rear in place of the drums? If it will, a disc brake rear with no narrowing needed would be really easy.

    TCI Streetfighter TC experiences?

DQ, You have the 63cc chambers, 8.4:1 compression. You are bogging the engine, feeding it more than it can handle at low rpms. Yes, the streetmaster has relatively small runners, but you have huge chambers to fill and you are losing velocity. A set of the '85 "swirl port" heads and a dual...

early B body rear in my duster

Keep the pumpkin if it is in good shape, it will fit in any 8-3/4 housing. The rest of the rear end is a good boat anchor.

    b body to a body 727

Use the shumacher conversion mounts. Both K frames are made the same thickness, no need to change. The charger driveshaft will likely be too long, although it will have the right yoke. The 489,742,and 741 carriers will all bolt into any 8-3/4" rear end housing.

early B body rear in my duster

If it is indeed a 65 or later axle, the drums should slide right off. If there is a large nut on the end of the axle shaft on the outside of the brake drum, you have a pre-65 axle and should seriously consider getting one of the later ones. These have keyed hubs and are known to fail in...

    b body to a body 727

Yes, if you don't already have a 727 in the dart you will need a shorter driveshaft and larger slip yoke. As mentioned earlier, the 727 needs to be from the same type engine as is in your car currently, big block, small block, or slant. If you are converting from a 904 you may also need the...

    $#@# leaking trans pan.

Good advice on the pan gaskets, guys. In the past I have found that many of the torqflite leaks actually come from the selecter shaft seal. It is cheap and pretty easy to replace, just requires dropping the valve body. If you are in doubt about where the fluid is coming from, clean the area...

    8 3/4 for a Early A Body

You can use a 65-70 b-body rear end. You will have to cut the spring perches off and reposition them to match the leaf spring position on the a-body. Make sure you get the u-bolts off the b-body, the axle tubes are larger diameter. You will also need a driveshaft for a 727and 8-3/4 abody, or...

    Jeep Cherokee 8 1/4 to an A body ?

Don, When you measure the 8.8 rear are you including the rotors? If so that only makes it .50" wider than a B-body rear (59.20"). I have put a B-body rear in a 71 duster, and I doubt the extra .25" would make any difference with stock wheels and tires. Will the 8.8 rear work with stock...

    TCI Streetfighter TC experiences?

DQ, What year heads are you running on that 318? Most of the stock heads are not that great, with the exception of the '85 up swirl-port heads, and if you are running 360 heads it will be too much. I still think you are bogging the engine out with the single plane and holley. The reason the...

    TCI Streetfighter TC experiences?

You might be experiencing slow takeoff because of too large a carb and the single plane intake. It doesn't take much to bog out a 318, they seem to run much better with a dual plane intake and a carb with very small primaries, like a small Quadrajet or TQ. I don't remember if you said you have...

want to change out 7-1/4 rear in Duster

Any other A-body that has an 8-1/4" will work. Many of the later 4dr. cars had them, so don't overlook a 4dr. valiant or dart in your search. The swap will be a direct bolt-in, except for shortening your driveshaft. If you find a duster or dart sport donor the driveshaft from the donor will...

    727 guts question

440 cars had the spring on top of the piston, others had the spring on the bottom. The procedure described earlier about measuring the spring and using a piece of pipe the same length as the spring instead of the spring is actually in the 1974 Factory Shop manual I have for A-bodys. The...

    Additional Trans Cooling Needed ?

The primary enemy of the trans is heat, so I would definitely recommend a cooler. The stock cooler in the radiator is immersed in engine coolant, so whatever your coolant temp is the minimum temp of your trans fluid (about 180-195). If you plumb in an external cooler, you can significantly...
