3.3 and 3.8 V6's, MUST READ FOR ALL!

When I was working at the machine shop I did alot of the 3.3's. Another big thing is the heads: they use a rocker shaft setup like the old LA's but one of the pedestools on the alluminum heads snap right off. Sometimes it seams related to the cam breaking but sometimes the head will be broken...

    Remote filters

I've had one on my Dart for about 7 years and never had a problem. You'd be surprised at how many Chevy guys ask if thats a factory option at car show! :banghead: Side note: my buddy put one in his Camaro because I had one, and he had a filter blow a seal, He's sure that its the remote filters...

    Rebuilt short blocks

Basicaly your gambling, for $500 you can't expect too much- you could end up with just another core. These companys throw them togather as fast as possible just make the quick buck. About a year or two ago a guy brought a 360 dodge from Checker to my shop and had us go through it. Heres the...

    Crate Stroker motor

I'd be little learry of those numbers myself. how can they both make the same power with different intake setups, and I'd bet anything that theydon't dyno every one- maybe sim-test them, and kickem' out the door. Probably just desktop dyno numbers. I think you could build one helluva engine for...

    Are They Magnum Heads????

Exactly! but if the cross bars are on top of the pedestal then its definately AMC- they're the only ones that did it that way and I think some of the 60's Buicks?

    Mopar timing chain tensioner

Alot cheaper than a gear drive for a better chance for consistent cam timing. I used a billet Rollmaster 9-keyway timing set with the tensioner, on the dyno the timing mark didn't move at all. compared to most shevys- jumpin all over the place!

    Mopar timing chain tensioner

It just goes on like the thrust plate. When I put one on my engine I drilled the 4th hole. I know it didn't really need it, but it couldn't hurt! :thumblef:

    Find #1 Plug

this is how the distributor "should" be, number one terminal on the cap should be pointing towards the #1 cylinder, not that it makes a huge difference but it just keeps things uncomplicated. Some people don't care and just drop the oil pump drive in wherever (typically chevy guys) and call it a...

bad day on the madien voyage

What kind of head gaskets were used? My shops had a few problems with certain brands. The torque should 90-95 ft/lbs. Also if you have to pull the heads check out the deck surface, I've seen a few engines the the machine shop was in a hurry and milled the block too fast and the deck has little...

    Connecting Rod Mystery

It was to add weight and material, ford does it alot, but not as common as mopars. Working in a machine shop I get to see all kinds of different versions, In our rod room theres at least 1000- 2000 sets of rods, anything you could think of. And the early 70's 318's that were floating were the...

    Connecting Rod Mystery

I've looked through alot of these rods- The casting number is the same for a boring old 360/318 as the hi-po floating 340's, the only difference is the 340's are bushed. I've never seen a 318 with factory bushed rods but with mopar you never know. And the factory never drilled the holes in the...

check out this thread click I agree with GotDart- don't forget the 318 they can diffinately make a little ol' A-body move.

    steel or cast crank

there is no such thing as an externally ballanced 318 LA motor

    cam swap

Apparently you have never measured any of this for yourself- or you wouldn't be trying to argue with me. I have measured- your book says 57-79- ok whatever, most books list as 67-74 but I've seen blocks later than 74 use the earlier bearing or visa versa. And your books states that 80-99 uses a...

    cam swap

if I'm reading your post right BJR- your saying tat magnum cam journals are bigger? because that isn't right, they use that same cam bearings as 74' and up- I've used a Magnum block and used an earlier cam in it. The one difference is the cam snout- the magnum uses a different timing set and...

    hemi

your right on the 429- I was thinking Boss but for some reason I wrote SCJ- And the Cammer engine isn't a hemi engine they still use the old FE block and theres not enough room for a hemi chamber- The only other "Ford Hemi" is the old Ardun conversion for the flathead- although not stock was...

    hemi

The only Ford "hemi" was the 429 SCJ (Nascar and limited street run) and if you find one of those in the woods you'd better go buy a lottery ticket and call up some supermodels for a date because you'd be the luckiest guy in the world!- And yeah and they look nothing alike.

    easy engine mounts

You should be ok with the tranny mount. And as long as you take it easy the 7 1/4 should last a while- My Factory 318 74' Swinger came with one stock- it lasted for a while- until I upgraded my power level!

how to get power from a 318

I'm pretty sure they came out in 85'- thats what all my books say and I just rebuilt an 85 318 out of a Gran Fury and it had 302's/roller cam

    easy engine mounts

I'm almost positive it was listed as a 68' Charger- B body SB mount - I just found it by the parts book had pages with illustrations so I looked at the stock Duster one and found the one that was the same style but thicker. Also I also think I that I used the left hand truck mount on the right...

how to get power from a 318

"Use what you have" thats kind of the idea behind my stroker- I already had a set of destroked 318 pistons I was stuck with- so it was either build a blower 318 or a stroker. So I went the cheap route as a kind of experiment to see how much power I could get out of it on how little money- I feel...

    easy engine mounts

Ok after reading countless post about engine swaps and "how-to's" buy a $150 schumacker kit, ect... I decided to try and help some people out. I figured this out when I was working on a 71 /6 Duster I was selling to a guy- he wanted me to mount a V8 in it, so I built up a little 318 (85' if...

how to get power from a 318

I got a 318 stroker: 370 hp- 400 ft/lbs and theres a potential for more About 9.5:1 comp, 360 heads ported to 2.02's, comp XS274S extreme solid cam, knock off air gap, I just turned down a 360 shaft.

    Another opinion question

I was only talking about the 408ci pistons- the regular ones use stock pistons -(from Keith Black webpage "Use Magnum rods or regular 360 rods with small end narrowed to Magnum rod width(1").")
  28. M

    Another opinion question

The KB pistons require the use of magnum rods or modifying the pin end of regular rods to be narrower.

    360 internal or external balance?

    360 internal or external balance?

just for conversation- Locomotion- you can balance the crank with the balncer on it- Its a royal pain in the butt but I've done a few- its actually the only way to balance an external crank without weights on the flexplate (mopars).- By the way why the he!! did Mopar do that to us in the first...
