HOW MUCH for NEW GEARS INSTALLED?

Well guys, this has been a VERY interesting exchange of ideas (among other things)............ I found a clean 489-2.76 here on FABO with a good pinion seal & bearings, and presumably nice and quiet. I could use the extra case hanging' around so I can set up a S-Grip in my spare time...

Whats the HIGHEST Gear Ratio used in a B-Body?

That's IT Dart............ Give the man another cigar! I totally forgot the open vs.SG formula......... Almost all of my old cars were sure grips.......raced them all.......Might have had a satellite Convertible with an open rear.........whatever. The "Twilight Zone" was that the ratio...

Whats the HIGHEST Gear Ratio used in a B-Body?

I know that..........like I said, I've been spinning 'em for forty years.......BUT, this has me stumped.................It's like I'm in the Twilight Zone.................

Whats the HIGHEST Gear Ratio used in a B-Body?

Guys.........I've been checking a car today to discover the gear ratio, and did it exactly like I've done it for 40 years........One spin of the tire to ? turns of the driveshaft.......... My question is as stated........ What's the highest ratio you've ever known in a B-Body from the...

    Driveline vibration

I had the same problem on my Dart Sport......drove me NUTS.....it was the tailshaft bushing......I had the shaft polished, put a new bushing in, and VOILA. Could be a LOT of things though. This was my experience after doing a new driveshaft.

HOW MUCH for NEW GEARS INSTALLED?

Guys......... I just got an estimate for a set of Yukon 3.23's installed in my 489 case and properly set-up, "in the car".......My gears are just too noisy for words.....as a matter of fact, I have words with 'em every time I take the car out of the driveway. They quoted me $850. in the...

    Trashed Stud...8-3/4...Pull the Axle??

Yeah, I know I could get it in there if there was enough clearance....... I'll be honest with ya'....... The last time I had to monkey with one of these axles (on the car) at ALL was back in 1973......I was running my 67 Satellite Convertible in what I THINK was N-Stock/A if I remember...

    Trashed Stud...8-3/4...Pull the Axle??

I installed a B-Body 8-3/4 in the 67 Cuda a while back.......I changed out the wheels a few months back to Cragar SS (I HATE puttin' these stinkin' things back on the car...they're miserable)........... Anyway, I trashed one of my studs.....would've sworn I had it right and gave it only 60#...

    Advice...67 Cuda Floor Shift Conversion

A while back, I designed a shifter mechanism for my Dart Sport that utilized a cable shifter and adapted a Hurst Pistol and boot for the auto tranny......Looked killer, and worked great..... I'm ready for the same conversion in the Cuda. My 67 Cuda has come a long way, and I'm ready to finish...

    74 dart vibration problem.

I had a 74 340 Cuda that was internally balanced, and they threw a stock counterweighted balancer on it.......It did EXACTLY what you say. After nearly pulling my hair out, I crawled under the car and looked with a flashlight (the weight is on the inside)..........and sure enough, there it...

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

That being the case, then an overall length or travel inside the sheath is the likely culprit. I guess I'll order the NOS from Mancini before they're gone..........they state only a few are left. They have a LONG collar too behind the nut that will help to keep dead center.......This cheap...

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

Found a NOS for the 67 Cuda at Mancini's for just under 60 bucks...... Is Mancini Racing reputable ?

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

Could shorten it still and finish the end, but it doesn't spin smoothly either.....Acts like an old dry piece of junk....SO, I'd have to take it off anyway to try a new lube job, put it back on, and hook it back up again just on the chance that it would be better.............. Not sure that's...

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

Well, I installed the gauge cluster only (no bezel at all) so I could access the cable while driving........Don't attempt this at home you drips........ When I move the cable even by fractions, it has an effect on the way the speedo operates......Flutters, inaccuracy, etc........ This leads me...

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

I checked the cable for sharper then normal bends and found none......You're right about the 90 degree under the seat, but it seems to be smooth, not too sharp.......I haven't lubed it any further but will probably try later today if another trim doesn't help. Clarify for me what you mean by...

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

Well, the end is A-OK......perfect fit to the socket....but as I said, it seems to be sticking out too far when it's back in it's sheath all the way......that's why I resorted to the trim......BUT, you can't trim it very far until you run into trouble with 'fraying' those little hairs the cable...

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

Well based on what I've laid out here, what do you think it is then? The speedo works nearly perfectly when spun manually (with a power drill) and no "inward" pressure on the speedo shaft....... Seems to me that something is afoot when the cable is attached, even loosely. That's when...

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

A while back, I had my original 67 Cuda speedo rebuilt and calibrated by Redline (If I remember right).......They seemed to do a good job......Put it in the car with the original cable and it worked fine.....BUT, I drove the car VERY little. After 3 or 4 years of 200 miles per/year if it was...

    727 Auto tranny question

I've seen them stick before....no idea why.....The last post was a good idea.....Might save you some bucks to just get it freed up yourself. In one of my old drag cars I had this problem ...it was a pretty old tranny....not much cash to work with back then......If memory serves, my old man...

    904 Shift Help........

    904 Shift Help........

I have a 904 in my Cuda, just rebuilt........The shifts are nice at cruising speeds, but really lack the feel of my former cars....... I want a very firm and solid shift, especially from 1st to 2nd, lots of torque transfer..........no milk toast........I love to shift the car, both up AND...

    What Causes "Howling" Rear Gears?

I know some of the things that can cause rearend gears to howl or sing in an annoying way, but I wanted to put this out there for you guys to comment on...... It's a common problem I've run into when restoring old Mopars, and was wondering if we could lay out some of the MOST COMMON causes...

Is it worth investing in a 8.25

I had an 8-1/4 3.55 Sure Grip in my Dart Sport 360.....never had a noise, never had a problem......and I drive hard.......full shift kit, always manual shifts up and down......really hammered the rear and it held up GREAT. If I was gonna really slam it with a 383/440 manual shift, I might...

    7-1/4's the SAME? Axles SWAP?

QUICK QUESTION: I have a 67 Cuda that needs a 7-1/4" axle (wanna change it out instead of having a new bearing put in....too much dough for what it is)....... I also HAVE a 1976 A-Body (Duster) 7-1/4 complete with good axles and bearings...... WILL THE 76 PARTS INTERCHANGE WITH THE 67...

The problem is that I've dealt with 'em SINCE the 60's, and it never gets much better......just when you think you have all the differences and quirks figured out on the old Mopars, another one comes along........Just in time for a Cruise-In or a Holiday weekend........... ............and AS a...
