3 on my tree shifter too loose

I have this problem that I posted about ... except besides being loose, it gets stuck. But we have some good advice here.

nearing completion - check it out

Well the body shop went 2 months over in the painting, but it looks good and now back for the engine/trans install. They only lost one part ... V end cap (front) of passenger side side spear molding/trim. Also because of the conversion to 3 on tree, I have a PB auto trans to sell and a guy...

I bought junk aftermarket side view mirrors

What a dope... I needfed a pair of squarish side view mirrors for the '64 Dart. Original twin post round ones look cool but are too small in viewing area for me. So I bought these Roberk ones off ebay just thinking they're metal and they're really cheap plastic and barely swivel. So going to...

Engine pulled/off to body shop, also last call for junk

Well, the engine is out, the parts car is here w/ correct engine parts, and 3 on tree trans. So while they work on engine, car is off for Mopar ivory w/ black spears. Also this is last call for this free giveaway rough trim -- pickup only, so MD/VA/PA guys pretty much. Added one side view...

    parts car got here

It has one left. Gotta check the condition. I think it has an extra gas tank, altho condition unknown. I know I'm gonna have a working pb auto trans (not sure if anyone wants those tho)

    parts car got here

Sure is pretty. Never seen a GT other than my old one that I am replicating now-- that had a 3 on tree, no radio, and even no widshield washer(!) At least the button is not on the wiper knob. So we are taking the 3 tree trans from this and also enoujgh parts to make the early 70s slant I...

1964 Dart GT convert update --

Well, I have a parts car on the way for enginer and 3 tree conversion, so although it won't be available for at least two months, I will have a p/b auto trans available. I have no idea if there is any demand for these or what a reasonable sale price is, but I hope to get something for it to...

1964 Dart GT convert update --

Thanks for all the info in Sept/Oct when I first got the car. Here you can see it w/ new top.. also has new hydraulics and cables, etc. Now the real fun begins. Some may recall this is a pb auto, but I want manual like mine was. Also mine has a later (early 70s?) slant w/ different...

    guess the VIN

Well the prob is the number came thru from seller's paperwork as 744xxxxxxx Which means 6 cylinder Dart/GT/1964 and even an old reg from a former owner in VA shows 744xxxxxx. The inspector saw/read/guess 714xxxxxxx which means 1964 Dart 170, so MVA won't issue the permanent...

    guess the VIN

VIN plate was painted over and 2nd digit in, no one can read it. The first two digits on VIN plates were a different typeface and lighter impression, clearly stamped earlier in the process. Even the shop manual shows this. Did VIN appear anywhere else on '64 Dart?

Was the '64 Dart 170 ever made in convertible body

Guess I answered one of questions -- no convert 170s

Was the '64 Dart 170 ever made in convertible body

This is critical question to a wicked VIN problem I am having w/ my recent purchase. Have 10K in a car I can't drive!!! Also, is the VIN anywhere else on the car besides the plate in the driver's side door well? That plate under the hood-- inner fender -- looks like other stuff but...

might take the plunge -- or not

Well, the '64 Dart is thru state inspection. Sending out the radio for service, then the engine is taken out for the full body repaint incl engine bay, new top after that. but w/ engine out, if there were ever a time to make the switch from auto to 3 on tree, this would be it. I have learned...

    flashers --

no, not that kind Didn't US automobile flashers become standard/required about 1967? How are people retrofitting flasher units to ones before this time? I guess there's add on kits, etc.

    starting slant 6

Well, even tho new '64 Dart is 50 yrs old, it's also my first automatic! Been driving the '94 Accord wagon so long (it's nearing 400K miles) that I forgot whatever I did in the 70s to cold start the original '64 dart. We (you) have pretty much determined it is a newer slant w/ a different...

    64 dart- stock side mirrors

Well round, 4" pretty much describes these. Maybe they are stock -- still would like a larger, but period correct mirror.

    64 dart- stock side mirrors

I recall mine on the old car being somewhat squared off/mild rectangle. What's on the new one are small circular mirrors -- not much viewing area. Interested in clean L & R originals, or decent repros that look like originals.

PB 3 speed auto shift speeds

Will have to try that and report back. At 25 it is still straining in 2nd
  19. R

PB 3 speed auto shift speeds

Seems like this newly acquired 64 Dart GT winds way out before shifting.. almost 20 in 1st almost 30 in 2nd... shouldn't these be less? I know w manual I would never wind up to those speeds --

    air cleaner and acclerator

I just want to put it back to stock--whatver it had when new. Not concerned w/ performance aspects. I do want the small air cleaner w/ the Charger 225 decal for sure. Antique cars here in MD don't have emissions inspection. Weren't early emissions setups known for affecting performance?
  21. R

    air cleaner and acclerator

maybe it was a whoe replaced engine? It does have the electronic ignition system, added recently. Slants were out by 195/76? Any to tell if it is later engine dropped in?
  22. R

    air cleaner and acclerator

Well gotta get that junque off of there. Parts will be up for grabs when this happens

    air cleaner and acclerator

So here's pix of this big 273 V8 air cleaner housing on this 225. Hoses going everywhere, etc. Early emissions, I guess. Or one guy here said California cars had to have this set up. Can all this just come off for the normal air cleaner? Also someone put in a wacko acclerator... whether by...

64 Dart GT convert arrived today- a novice is happy

I don't know if he is a member here but on MOPARTS.com there is a member, BIGMONEYLEWIS or BIGLEWISMONEY, (something along that line) that restores MOPAR radios. Never used him but never heard anything negative about his work either....Paint looks nice from the pics. What's wrong with...

64 Dart GT convert arrived today- a novice is happy

Will post some more pix. Well just getting started... as much as I would like to do paint/top now, putting a 3 on tree in ahead of that would be most logical.. or else you ahve to pull engine twice.. Also if you go from pb/auto to 3/tree, does rear end/differential have to change? Knowing...

64 Dart GT convert arrived today- a novice is happy

Deal went down 3 weeks ago... some worrisome issues with the carrier, but it got here finally, a week late. It seems to drive ok, have to get it inspected, brakes seem ok. I didn't know it had power steering and it's effortless, almost too effortless. Had not sat behind the wheel of this model...

    key question

Thank you for clearing that up. Don't recall glovebox having a lock (or maybe that was higher end, larger Dodge and Plymouth models).

    key question

60s MoPar (at least '64!) had a 4 sided igntion key and round trunk key. Are these really the same blanks so an original initions switch could be copied on a trunk key blank -- or is there some the different about them? Also I forget since I haven't had a 64 Dart in 38 years (and it isn't even...

MD/VA paint shops, and air cleaner question

Well I just got this '64 Dart GT convert -- arrives in a few days. After inspection, I want to get a new top (black, it has white) and even tho it's a nice paint job I want it the color mine was. Guess the paint is done first, then the top. So far I am finding paint shops saying they do...
