    318 head options ... again!!

Thanks everyone for helping me out here, after reading here, I'm not sure if I chose the right cam, or if I should use the 308 heads ... lol. I don't want the car to go 120MPH, I'd like to have some low end grunt ... and that's where torque comes in as well.

    318 head options ... again!!

I really appreciate everyone's opinions and real life experiences. I'll probably go with the 308's. I emailed the member here on the forum that had them, so if he responds in the next couple days, that the route I think I will choose. I can work on engines, and rebuild them, but my knowledge is...

    318 head options ... again!!

Hey folks, So I'm still looking into some heads for my 318. - I found a guy with a nice set of #308 heads - but I understand these are not as good as the #302 heads and will not raise compression? - I have a set of factory heads from a 71 318 - Would taking them into the machine shop...

Couple questions on 318 to 360 swap

Thanks for the response, I don't know the person, but I have heard the engine run, but not for very long. I do know it was built professionally by a local shop, he has all receipts for the engine. It's a hard decision deciding which route is best!

Couple questions on 318 to 360 swap

Hey guys and gals, I was going to freshen up an old set of 318 heads and have 1.88/1.60 valves put in, and put in a new cam in my 318, but I found a guy that needs money and has a fresh 360 that he's willing to sell pretty cheap. From the research I've found it shouldn't be too hard to swap...

Best cam for choppy idle and low end torque?

Hello folks, I'm looking at putting a different cam in my 318. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner, bored .030 over and higher compression pistons, it has stock heads with 340 springs. The car has 3.23 gears with stock converter and I'll be running a 27" tire in the rear. I'm...

    Carburetor suggestions for 318

Gears are 3.23. the torque converter is factory, but the transmission has been rebuilt with a shift kit. I bought the heads from Aerohead racing. The heads work pretty decent but I'm sure I'll upgrade them at some point. The car isn't sluggish or slow, I just wondered if I could optimize my...

    Carburetor suggestions for 318

Sometimes I get a sputter on acceleration, Its seems to be running a little rich. It may just need a little more adjusting. I'm not overly familiar with tearing into a carb, I can tune one pretty decent with the adjustment screws, but thats as far as my knowledge goes.

    Carburetor suggestions for 318

I've got a 71 with the factory 318. I'm running KB high compression pistons with mid 80's 1.60"/1.88" heads. It has the xe268h comp cam. I currently have an edelbrock 1406 600CFM carburetor with an edelbrock performer intake on the car. I'm not 100% impressed with the performance of the carb...

Stock 318 bolt on performance modifications

My dad and I just got done building the 318 out of my duster, punched the engine out 30 over, KB pistons, 268H compcam, I found a set of reworked heads, performer intake and 600 eddy, and cheap summit headers, and she's a screamer now! I was completely surprised by the performance difference it...

    Trying to decide

I am in the process of getting ready to build a 318 too, I'm with you man, there are so many choices, everyone recommends something completely different. Good luck on the build, from everything I have read, they come alive fairly easy!

    318 head casting issues?

so I guess my next question would be is there any downside to using these heads on a 318 build? I also have 360 heads I could use, but from what I hear they lower compression? Also the fact that they are stamped AAWJ does that mean they are J heads or do all J heads have J stamped between the...

    318 head casting issues?

I bought a 318 for a project I am working on. The engine appeared to be all original, but now I'm not quite sure. The casting numbers on the engine say its a 1971. Is was told it was out of a camper. The transmission was attached and its definitely a camper transmission. My dad pulled the heads...

    1970 318 out of a camper??

Thanks for the replies guys. So should I keep the 904 out of my dart or grab this transmission for it? I have read pro's and con's for both. I can pick up the 318 and the 727 for $175. Even if I Don't need the 318, I Don't think $175 is bad for a 727.

    1970 318 out of a camper??

I just bought a 1972 slant 6 dart as my first project. The car came with a completely disassembled 360 that I don't know anything about. From the casting numbers all I could tell was that it was built in january of 1978. I'm going to have to take the engine in to be magnafluxed and checked over...
