I'm sure no expert on automatics, in fact I need all the help I can get. Someone on here posted about Tom Hand's book, and I decided to order one. I'm not sure how "correct" it is, but this thing is absolutely FULL of detailed "how to" and very VERY good photos. Unfortunately...

What is the "trick" on 727/ 518 (46RE) dust shields??? rubbing/ noise

Got the White Whale III fired up on the hoist, checking levels, adding fluid, oil, etc, and "the dreaded rubbing sound." This MIGHT be the same dust shield I tried to install on the White Whale I (which lives without one) and had it off two or three times before I left it off...

Why can't I "learn" White Whale III project

for those unfamiliar, the White Whale I is my running 97 Dodge 1500. WWII is a junker, and WWIII is a 2500 I bought, bad 46RE automatic, to "fix up" and replace WWI Then a disappointing tow on windy roads "felt" the need to convert the up coming?? WWIII to a stick instead...

Anybody, Dodge 2500 uses center support/ carrier bearing?

Got the White Whale III back in the air, I'm considering converting it to a stick. I notice it has a drilled frame "about where" and I go look Google, and sure enough, some of them use a center support/ carrier bearing. If you have one that uses one, can you measure the height of the...

Who in the 'Ell thought THIS was a great idea? (NV3500)

I've been "toying" with the idea of converting the White Whale III to a stick. This is the 3/4 T I bought with a known bad transmission, 46RE. The recent "tow" on low speed winding roads, brought home how lame a 5.2/ 46RE (in the WW I) really IS at least with that...

A518 late model (97) filler tube seal / O ring?

I forgot "where I put" the o ring, so don't even have it for size. 97 Dodge 1500 2wd A518 (46RE) Need part no, source, or size of filler tube O ring. I think it might be different than older 727. The filler tube is necked way down right at the end.

If I do say so myself, "White Whale"

In a nearby galaxy a 'ell of a long time ago, the White Whale was leaking ATF like you can't believe........about 3/4 qt in about 100 miles!!! So I finally FINALLY got it re-hung today. It's mated to the engine, about 5 bolts snugged up, so I HOPE the really hard work is...

    Applications to find an A-500?

Been at least thinking about an A-500 based OD. yeah, I know...........crossmember. But I found some threads that seem to say you don't need to chop up the floor. So just what do these come in? that would fit a smallblock? According to what I've found...

So the White Whale leaks like the titanic on the way down. About 100 miles is a bit more than 1/2 qt of ATF. So I built this: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?p=1970867769#post1970867769 here...

    Cheetah troubles

I bought a used Cheetah from a member on here --no problems there. But the thing acts as if there is not enough throw. At this time, it won't go into park far enough to engage the NSS, and also barely makes it all the way back to 3rd (reverse pattern.) The lever is...

    Modified B&M Pro Stick?

I bought a NOS B&M Pro Stick, and finally ordered the reverse pattern plate. But you have to fiddle with the trigger to get from ?? forward gears or low to neutral. I'd like to just be able to slam it forward from any gear to neutral, and the only thing in the way...

I always thought a late model AMC trans built to fit an AMC WAS a 904/727: http://www.carcraft.com/techfaq/116_0701_tci_transmission/viewall.html This line: " You can also buy a housing adapter and mate this transmission to Ford, Chevy, or Chrysler engines." Quote from the page...

self larnin' goin' on--narrowing rear axle

So today I dragged home a Ferd 9" out of a 78 Mark. Worthless gears, but factory rear disc!! brakes. So I'm gonna try my hand at larning to narrow the housing. Now I have a lathe and can do basic stuff, so I intend to build a jig. I'm confident I can build the bushings to fit the...
