She's alive!! (Try and guess what was wrong...)

So a while back I posted a thread after finding that my newly rebuilt 318 wasn't getting oil to the heads. I was damn near lightin the whole thing on fire I was so frustrated. A lot of you guys chimed in to help me through the trouble-shooting process. Well, after getting a priming shaft, I...

    No oil in pass. head?

Fired up the new motor yesterday for the first time. Fired on the first crank! But it got kinda noisy so I shut it off. This morning, I pulled the valve covers and it looks like the passenger side head isn't getting any oil past the rear two rockers. Save for the rear rockers, everything is...

Spewing coolant from a water pump hole?

Okay, everything is just about ready on my new engine. Started filling it up with fluids when I ran into this problem. There's a hole (like a bolt hole) in the water pump that is directly behind the kajigger that the lower radiator hose clamps to. coolant just pours right outta this hole. The...

Wanna ditch the 90° oil filter adapter.

The new motor I installed is set up to just have the oil filter go directly to the block. I thought I could get away with the same filter I used with the 90° adapter (PH16 I think), but it just won't seem to fit. So after a quick search, it's looking like I want a PH43. Does that sound right...

Timing the oil pump shaft gear?

Just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly; I bring the #1 cylinder to tdc, align the distributor shaft slot in the gear with #2 cylinder (pass front), then once the gears mesh, the slot should be aligned with #1 cylinder? That sound right?

What's your method for breaking in a rebuilt engine?

I should be firing my newly rebuilt engine for the first time tomorrow. A few minutes ago, while installing the drive-shaft, I began to wonder about beark-in procedure etc. Anybody have some tips on firing a freshly rebuilt engine for the first time? Should I let it sit and idle for a while...

What do I need to watch for when getting a freshly rebuilt LA?

So I found a fellow with a freshly rebuilt 318 for sale. It's never been fired and it's on a stand so I'm trying to think of what all to check to be sure it's worth it. So far all I know is from what he's told me: New pistons Bored 30 over 9:1 compression ratio Valve job RV cams I'm...

What are your favorite 318 valve covers?

Tax return arrived so it's time to take care of all the little pesky problems on my dart. One of these problems is a set of leaky stamped pos valve covers. So, what are your favorite valve covers? I've been leaning toward the cast MOPAR covers just because they are the easiest to find, but I...

    Need a better radiator.

The radiator in my dart just 'aint cutting it. Cruising on the freeway in this triple digit heat gives me an almost guarantee that she'll overheat. I thought about doing an electric fan as well, but if replacing the radiator does the trick, I'll probably keep the clutch fan. Anybody have any...

    Valve spring retainers stuck?!

I've been putting off replacing the valve seals on my 318 for a couple weeks now. Today, I finally got around to it and I'm having a problem. I can't seem to get the springs to drop free of the retainers. The spring is good and compressed, but they just won't drop. Anybody have some tips or...
