so I was driving and both head lights went out. I replaced the head light switch and checked the grounds.still stumped I had changed the head light to a brighter white silvania about three months ago. I swapped some new ones and still no head lights I do remember before they went out the high beams stopped working any thoughts or ideas welcome

Dimmer switch, and power in..........................check it at the light switch w/a headlamp & jumper wires..................
BTW, I put a replacement Headlamp sw. in My '87 Dak from Carquest, only
lasted 2 years & not a ton of usage. Just went out on Me when I flipped the
highs on, thought it was the dimmer, but flipping that did nada, cycled the
HL sw. and presto!! Lights were back on....................

as suggested previously, probably dimmer, bulkhead connector, but you are aware that the headlight switch has an integral circuit breaker? The breaker resets itself after sufficient cooling.
I once drove a couple hundred miles back from Eastern Washington with the headlight switch dangling in front of the cooling air from the left footwell vent. Sometimes you gotta make do with what you got.

Dimmer switch. Bulkhead connector.
Thanks for the response I switched out the dimmer switch and headlight switch still nothing the Brake light will come on and the dome light along with the gauge cluster lights but still no head lights I have also checked the bulk head connector cleaned it for better contact I might by another head light switch and try it again

I have a feeling the brighter white version of the headlights is causing some issue because I have never had this issue before up until I bought new ones

absolutely. more light, more current draw, it just loaded the weakest link past the tipping point. When I had trouble with mine, it was after I installed Hella H4 headlights. Most people go to headlight relays for upgraded headlights. There is probably a big thread or tech article on here somewhere about fixing that issue long term. But you may have another issue complicating things right now.

Yes I'm going to try a new head light switch and go back to my regular bulbs I know I'm not getting any power to the headlights I used the ground cable to see if it sparked any of that three cables that attach to the head light and I got nothing at all so I'm thinking it's under the dash were my issue is

Check your wiring to the dimmer.
You may want to grab a good test light, if you have dome light, and cluster lights, no park lamps or headlamps, this tells me power is coming into switch, but not making its way out.
Now i know park lamps are fused as well as dome, but if im not mistaken the headlamps are a seperate power through a fusible link.

Could easily be your "dimmer" (high/low beam) kickswitch on the floor, either the switch itself or the connector to it having pulled loose.

changed the head light to a brighter white silvania

That was an error; those are a scam. Sylvania got spanked to the tune of thirty million dollars(!) for the false "upgrade" claims they make for their Silver Star headlights. Once you get the circuit fixed, at least put in a set of these so you can safely see where you're going.

I fixed it. It was those sylvania extra vision bulbs I put regular bulbs back on and problem solved

Went through the same thing recently, turned out the dirty old connection for the headlight power wire built up enough heat to melt the connector a little, cleaned that up and trimmed away the melted corner. A little tricky to plug back in but works fine. Though the first replacement switch didn't last long, they're kinda hit or miss with quality

I would return those and get a refund, I have used the xtravision lamps and been happy with them, it may well be You have a weakness in the system that won't tolerate
those lamps. But I'm inclined to think those particular ones are defective. I have never used any of the Silverstar variants simply because of Sylvania's stated lifespan on
the box, and a certain amount of wattage can only produce so much light reliably. I have used the large rectangular, small rectangular(4 lamp types), & small rectangular
(2 lamp types), all with very good results. I have the large round units, but have yet to try them, we'll see...................or not!LOL,........................
