What years power steering box can use in a 1964 Dart 270? I was told to beware of rebuilds. I have replaced the frontend with disk brakes from a 1973 Valiant.

Are there any recommendations for a steering box?

I think 1972 would be the last year that fits, i.e. with the smaller sector shaft. The listings in rockauto or Autozone should verify. If your car wasn't originally power steering, you will need a different steering column. People would swap you and even pay since more people convert to manual steering.

I haven't read of problems with rebuilds. Many listings I have seen require you to send in your box, they rebuild and return. Shipping both ways is $$. Rebuild kits are ~$15 and it isn't real hard. Lookup my post on my 65 Dart. You can even paint it better than the cheesy flaky black paint most rebuilders spray. For new boxes, maybe Flaming River (not sure if power).

While fooling around there, check your idler arm since they tend to wear. My tie rods ends weren't worn, so I painted and re-used.

Firm Feel or Steer and Gears will take your box (or use it as a trade-in on one of their already rebuilt ones) and upgrade it with new parts and depending on which one you choose, will give you much more road feel similar to a late model car.
