I have a '65 Formula S Barracuda that was built and sold new in California. It has the chrome unsilenced air cleaner with the nipple for the tube to the valve cover breather. I'm sure that part is correct. Because it's a California sold car, it had the California emissions standards with the hose to the VC breather. Some will call this "CAP", although I don't believe they called it that in 1965.

The base for this air cleaner disappeared somewhere when a past owner changed to an Eddy carb.

The correct AFB is on it now.

I have this base, which I think might be correct for my car, but I'd like to be sure.

Which one is correct?

I also have this style base which is on the car right now. (not my pic)

Big John,

I too, have a California built and sold '65 Formula S. My base does not have the side baffle, however, I bought the chrome top with nipple and base at a swap meet, so can't say it was original to the car. The baffle makes sense though, first time I've seen or heard of it.

Hey Bob. We've talked on the 300 club email server a time or three.

I have three examples of that base.
[SOLD] - 273 COMMANDO AIR CLEANER
[SOLD] - 273air cleaner chrome

And this one on FCBO. I talked to the seller about this and he says " '62 to '65 CAP A and B bodies"
For Sale - 62-65 4BBL air cleaners

I saw the base with the baffle somewhere else too, but I can't find it.

I've never seen one with a baffle like that and I don't believe CAP happened until 66. @65dartcharger will know for sure. He is the expert with those.

Well, I know the first year for Mopars sold in CA to have a PCV valve was 1961, but the hose from the PCV went into the base of the carb, or intake manifold depending on engine and year. Not sure when they added the nipple to the air cleaner top.

From everything I've read, they had the nipple in 1965. I think that was the first year, but never really looked into it any farther that 1965.
