That’s how I met him at the Spring Fling he brought that and a Hemi Roadrunner. Super nice guy. I saw all his toys and his next creation he is working on.

Committed now. Some Rusty and crumpled metal out. Floorboard wrinkles hammered out and almost flat now. Slowly contemplating what and where to cut and graft. The 80’s body work was top notch. That area around the lower hinge was like this then filled with filler.

My conscience (I named mine Robert McCartney) said it’s better to separate the panels vs trying to graft on the entire corner. Patch panels separated from the step back ready to clean and mock up. Next comes the corner piece. Nice to be able to slowly pull it apart as a complete section you can roll to any position to understand how it was assembled.

Another great project Jim. If you need some inspiration ...or close-up photos...let me know.
I've been through that already.

All that in under 90 days.

That's awesome! Do you have the hemi for it yet?
Not yet. I upgraded from the 360 to a Blueprint Engines 408....and that sent me down the 1/4 at 13.07 on the first attempt. (Right lane)

HEMI project will have to wait a little while.

Day 3 of drilling spot welds is actually getting better as I am seeing the end... sort of... The door post is tweaked from that fender bender... guess since I have one I should replace it. Someone asked how I find the spot welds.. usually like this.

Rust wise that truck is not as bad as it looked in the beginning.

It was just that damn spray foam. Where the foam was and water got to it destroyed the metal.
I can totally see that, you should see the stuff around here in the rust belt.
I know a guy who was a carpenter use dry-wall mud to patch his 280Z to get it to pass safety inspection.

Oh I grew up in central NY... I know what rust is! That is why I attacked this... it was worth saving even if it is a PIA.

You know what I am talking about five year old cars with body parts falling off.

Jim, What rust reformer or process do you use on those spots that you will not replace?
Beware of unseasonal monsoons.
You are truly a metal sculptor.

Media blast it and epoxy. Yea we are having weird monsoon like weather this week.

My conscience (Robert) is going to make this a quality job no how much work he makes me do. It does look so much better without the bow and wrinkles in the step area and door pillar. Need to trim the pillar joint a bit more to pull it up to get the correct hinge spacing and close up that gap. It is nice a straight now.

Why not back up 3 exciting days of drilling spot welds by blasting for 3 days? I had enough and it was looking like storms were rolling so I packed it in and covered it up. Tomorrow I should have the interior done and can finish up the welding. Amazing what a bit of high velocity coal slag, crushed glass and Starblast can do.

I gave up on blasting at home, unless it is small parts, local guy does it cheaper than I can buy the media for.

I use coal slag and Starblast. Both last a long time. So far I have about a bag and a half consumed. I doubt I will have more than $150 in materials when done. My time on the other hand…. My local place gets $100 per hour. I have about 12 hours in getting the interior of the cab done but there was a ton of black pits to get dig out. They take forever.

My guy, I can bring a trailer load of parts to him, he always says $40 I always come back with, that is too cheap and give him extra.

One time I had him do a rail-road conductor stand it was most likely from around WWII, it was heavily coated with multi-layers of paint.
I also said powder coat it, since I planned on actually using it.
He called me said, it was done, come get it, but he was not going to be there.
I asked how much did I owe him, he said nothing, free its sitting on his roll back.
Ever since then, whatever price he gives me, I just hand him 2X.
