1966 Barracuda Restoration Project

Looking good Jim! We finished our "home-made-from-the-dented-hood-floorboards" this afternoon.... Updates in my thread.....

Today I gave it my best to try and weld in my first ever floor pan. I'm not terribly impressed with my welding. I guess practice makes perfect. Next weekend I'll try the drivers side. I've been waiting for a freind to come over and show me how do floor pans, but I got tired of waiting. Time to figure it out on my own.

Opps, the pics didn't upload.

Looking good Jim!!! I taught myself to weld on the floors of my Fury 12 or so years ago.... I re-learned on Jake's floors. Our next attack is the small patch for his front fender then the door. By the time I get it down, It'll be time to tackle the 1st 1/4 panel..... Before that, I wanna put a couple pieces of scrap down and get the welder in Jake's hand - I haven't quite talked him into it yet.....

Got alot accomplished today. Welded up some holes in the engine compartment, repaired a couple rust holes in the floor pans and welded in the drivers floor pan. I picked up a welding CD at the swap meet held by the Mopars of Brevard County yesterday. It has helped my welding alot. Also painted the inside of the subframe under the floor pan with some POR-15 before installing them, should help some with rust.

Well, I'm getting rid of a little bit of the pink at a time. Finished removing the undercoating and now starting to strip the paint, I can't stand that pink...LOL. I went out and got some aircraft paint remover manufactured by Kleen Strip from a reputable auto paint store for $42.00 a gal. It only takes off one coat at a time usually which makes for alot of work, but what I found funny is in the precautions it stated "Do NOT use on Aircraft". Do you think this is an immitation or something. Stripping the paint should get alot easier as I start doing some of the flatter surfaces (I can assist with the DA sander). The engine bay has too many nooks and crannies. L8r
Jim

I was wondering if the Pink was one of the original Hugh Hefner Playboy Pink cars, I think it was a special paint code 99?

cchrishefish, I wish it were a code 999 but it's actually an RR1 which was originally yellow.

Thanks Uli, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. He looked like he was a good man, I also lost my dad this past year in Feb, it can be very hard on you. Those pictures of your incredible metal work on your cowl will be an inspiration to me and a big help as I begin on the same journey with my cowl. It is all rusted inside and out and will have to come apart like yours did. Thanks again, if you ever need anything just PM me. Take care my friend,
Jim

Took the outer cowl off today to see if I could repair the inner cowl...Yeah right! The inner cowl looks like swiss cheese everywhere there isn't a huge hole from cancer. I'd really have to look hard to find a solid piece of metal to start my welding. Think I'm in the market for another inner cowl. My son took a look at the inner and said " we're never gonna get this thing fixed are we". I reassured him "sure we will it will just take more time and work". He seems to be taking more interest in the project now than he did when we first started, I thing it's because we are starting to make repairs instead of just tearing the car down. Until next time....

I haven't done anything on the car in the last two weekends, I'm waiting for my new to me inner cowl to arrive. Meanwhile I've managed to build myself a rotisserie. It's not quite done yet, theres still a few minor details to work out. Hopefully I'll have the car mounted on it just after I get that inner and outer cowl installed. I don't want to tweak the body without the extra strength of the cowls while it's on the rotisserie, what does everyone think?

Looks great Jim rotisory is a must have to save you from crawling around on your back. I'm not fond of swiss cheese either,my charger was that bad on one side only and we replaced it with a piece we made [hopefully i did a good job].

hello
super restoration you in the rules of art, I congratulate you for your work, courage, I have also gone through before starting the engine and hear the engine roar =D>

Over the last 2 weeks I've been busy separating(drilling spot welds) the new inner and outer cowls i got, compliments of dart64gt(thanks). Got the old cowls off, welds ground down, weld surfaces cleaned and primered, and the new inner cowl fitted and in place. Will weld it in Sunday and start cleaning up the outer cowl and fit it for installation. It seems as though it takes forever to get anything accomplished with life going on around you. I guess I imagined this process moving along a little faster, but then again I'm trying to learn as I go.

Good job brother your weldin is fine mine looks just like it,your movin right along with the progress looks great. Someday i'll start mine gotta finish the charger first [test fittin the 440 tomorrow].Keep it up it'll be done before you know it.

Finally got the car on the rotisserie today, I'm so excited! Now I can start working on the underside. Going to the paint shop monday to pick out the paint so I can get the inner cowl and underside of the outer cowl painted before I weld them together. The color I picked out is almost like a Seafoam color. I've got a sample of the color on one of the pictures I found on the internet below. Slow but steady progress....Jim

Sorry not too much to report on the cuda. I was out sanding and wire wheeling the underside today for about 45 minutes and thats all I could stand in this heat and humidity in Florida. This may turn out to be a fall, winter and spring hobby.
