I am replacing my rear main seal in a 67 Barracuda which has a 273. I have taken apart what I need to and removed the old seal replacing it with a new one from Felpro. Here is a picture of the seal:

if you look at the bottom half on the ears there is a section that sticks up a bit out of the main cap. When I install the cap it doesn't look as though it's being flushed to the block properly since the ears with the raised area is sticking up past the cap far enough to cause the issue. The cap has a place for the ears but the part at the top just sticks past too far to be compressed under torque. The seal I removed was flat and didn't have this problem. Also the ears out on the end stick past the cap which I also don't think is correct. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
