1967 Dart GT Project

Here I have the console cleaned and prepped for paint. I sanded down the epoxy glue that I used and covered the groove with a bit of evercoat filler and sanded that down. Since the console has a bit of grain or texture to it the spot I fixed would have looked smooth compared to the rest. So I got the area wet with paint and just dabbed it with a scuff pad to texture it a bit, turned out ok a little too grainy and different but who will ever notice when it's in the car... driver not a show car I guess.

Here is the console put back together, the shift indicator has a crack in it so eventually I will replace it... not sure where to find one but whatever, the dust shield was also broken so I will need that too but not for now. I also will be buying a carpet kit for it to finish it off. Not too bad of a winter project with decent results.

Very nice work all around! I'm very impressed with the work on the console. What color did you use on the silver part of the lid?

I did a lot of research on the colors of the original consoles, from what I found they also actually had a bit of a texture to them. The color is originally silver argent. There are a few guys out there that reproduced this paint and texture but it's supposedly very expensive. I found a post on Moparts about a guy who compared these remixed colors to a product called Krylon Fusion plastic paint. It is actually made for lawn furniture that I found at ACE Hardware, pretty dang close to the color and the same texture.

Great work. What kind of carpet are you going to use?

You can get the parts for your console from Mike at BE@A, he is a good guy to deal with. You have the car looking good and you'll have it going before you know it. Keep up the good work. Ronnie

Thanks guys, as for the carpet they make a kit now for about $48. I will be using that, it pretty much matches the factory look.

Thanks also Ronnie for the tips, I will check it out to get my needed parts.

I'm going out on a limb here but I was thinking about doing something a bit "different" with the interior. It is original black bucket seats with black carpet, black door panels black dash and pad, white/grey headliner. I am considering going with white seats and door panels and headliner, black carpet and dash..... black interior is great but everyone uses it!! What do you think??

This is not my car found it in a seach but exactly what I would like to do.
