i would build it for the street unless you have a fast back. then, i would use it for parts

I'd build it the route he was headed with it and drive the hell out of it. I think it's a killer project, but the money was spent in the wrong areas. Personally, I would have spent less on things that aren't needed right now and more on an engine and transmission and made it driveable. It could have been built with stock springs, rearend, and drum brakes and then had the other upgrades added later. A little sand paper and some epoxy primer would go a long way on the body, and I would definitely put a windshield in it to protect the interior from the elements. If I had a Camaro laying around I'd definitely kick it out of the garage and make sure this took it's place.

I love how people try to justify the price of a car/project by saying "there's been $xxxx ammount spent on it.

Perhaps those people should have taken that into consideration before spending that ammount.

Cost and value are not the same thing.

...and If I buy a (insert product name here) for $20, discard the receipt, remove the packaging, install the item, use the item, maybe even nick the paint on the item, is it still valued at $20 to everyone else?

Now if I had only paid $10 for that item that is realistically valued at $20, I might be able to suffest to you that it it's value is $18 and both would be happy.

...and maybe consider a junkyard or craigslist 318 or 360.

There's a couple hundred dollars that would be much more valuable than the cost.

i could not agree more

sell it buy a huge sack of weed & well smoke it all & ill help you spend the rest on munchie food , i am not allowed to reply to posts while on meds lol. you go ronnie!

All my project builds get suspension and brakes first,I want to enjoy the car.Keep it near, or stock.Need a solid base you can trust, and build from.Unless you are going road racing, why not use the technology Mopar already paid for?

the body is probably in better shape with the bare metal spots than the pix show it to be.

mine had a home made west texas two tone paint job by its previous owner. this is where you stick the car in a field for 30 plus years and let the suns rays burn the paint off of it LOL !!!!!

the roof, top of the trunk, and hood were sunburnt to bare metal with surface rust (look at my pix on the site) . i used a D.A. sander with 80 grit sandpaper set to orbit not grind, and sanded past all the pitting to good clean metal, when i was nearing completion of this all i was removing from the metal was grey colored dust. which was actually a thin layer of sheet metal. i switched to 150 grit with a D.A. sander on orbit to remove the 80 grit scratches, then i used 4 heavy coats of dupont grey laquer sandable primer to cover it.

i suspect the body of this 68 coupe is the same way on the bare metal spots. i read the prev posts, and in my opinion it would be a shame to put a chevy in it. i have owned fords, chevys, and mopars, i dont believe in swapping engines from different brand manufacturers in the old musclecars but do what you want. its easy enough to put a true mopar K frame back under it and put a mopar V8 back in it when your done.

just my .02
matt

I noticed he removed the picture of the busted out windshield and the price on the Craigslist ad.

As said before, if he would get a desent junkyard drivetrain (not a CHEBBY)
and install it and make a driver he would get far better money... Oh yeah install a windshield.

the pics dont do it justice , it is very solid car . putting in a junkyard drivetrain is a catch 22 , by the time its a decent driver & gets thru negotiating the asking price he could end up @ his asking price as a roller & be out more time & $$$ . its just hard takin hit when u switch projects if you cant swap parts , i would personally pull all the good stuff off & sell it as as a base roller , its a lot more work but a better chance @ getting more $$ out of it
