1968 Dart GTS - 383 4 speed

-
Anyone know how many of these cars were made?
I don't know but I had one. White 4sp black interior with white dog dish hub caps. Sold it for a 70 T/A Challenger 4spd.Then a 69-1/2 Superbee then a 70 Challenger TX black 4spd 440, then a 69 Roadrunner B5 4spd then a 70 Cuda In-Violet 340 then a 70 Dart Swinger 340 4spd. I don't own any of them anymore.

God I'm depressed.

I have a chance at this car, I will look at it and let you guys know!

Anyone with info on decoding numbers and where to look would be great as my books only go back to 1969!

I had a dark green, black vinyl top, white bumble bee stripe 68 GTS with a 383 4spd combo. It had a pistol grip shifter, fender well headers and Cragar S/S wheels circa 1978. I miss that old Mopar. Last seen in Keyesport Illinois.

Had a look at the car this morning, as normal the guy has a ton of cars and thinks there all hemi cuda's! I was excited about the car until I seen it.
Basically this is what's left,
- rough body shell needing quarters and a full blast. All glass and dash.
- bucket seat interior in rogh shape.
- 8 3/4 rear diff,
- ralley rims
Car is originally from manitoba, so I'm told.
Can someone Decode this for me?
Thanks In advance.

Ed,

There has always been some confusion about the 1968 'GTS 383'.

It did come through with the Code #62 383 Engine, which was rated at 300 HP.

Though it did come through with the #906 Cylinder Heads, it did not come through
with the 440 Camshaft or Valve Springs.

And the early Models came through with the Inland Shifter, before the Mid-Year Models were switched over to a Hurst Shifter.

I agree, those numbers are close

Does anybody have the correct shipping weight of the 1968 GTS 383 'convertible'.

I think it was right at #3300 lbs., and was a desired car for NHRA {G/Stock} in 1968 as it had a perfect 11.00 Weight-to-Horsepower factor.

Thanks Mr. Dart 4 Forte,

One of the local guys in my city has an original (dark green) paint, '68 GTS 383 4-speed. I've been trying to get him to sell it to me, without looking all excited about it. LOL Strangely enough, it's been converted to an automatic and had the front inner fenders cut out for headers. Other than that though, it's REALLY nice! Not a spec of rust anywhere and no vinyl rust-sponge top.

This is the condition its in..................Pretty Nasty!

Sometimes when you want a RARE car, that is REAL, you have to deal with one you can find. A lot of parts are now made for the Dart.

That's still 'Mucho Work'.......

I guy who lives near me in Baldwin Place, New York has a 1968 GTS 383, Gold with
Black Vinyl Top, Black Interior w/Bucket Seats, and an Automatic.

A second owner. The only addition on the car is a set of Hooker 'under-chassis' Headers.
It runs great and is in very good condition, including a redone interior.

Still left the New York National Speedway Class Winner decals from 1969 and 1970 on the back window.

He was asking $12,000 for the car.

When I bought my 71 export hemi cuda, it was so bad I had to replace Floors, posts, the roof, 1/4's and so on. But, if it is a rare car you want and have the time to restore it then the question you need to ask is how badly you want it.

what was the asking price ? Incorrect buckets , no motor / trans.....

My opinion, I feel its just as rare as my car (one of 1000). I thought I had a decent car until it was appraised. I was shocked when I seen the the final number.
