Hi all. I have a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger with a bone stock 318. Is a non a/c car with power steering. I'm having trouble finding the correct belt routing. Right now the crank, water pump, and p/s are on one belt. The alternator is on it's own belt. Being that the pulley on the alternator is small it chirps if you hit the gas hard. I'm wondering if the pulleys are incorrect. It seems odd that the alternator is on its own to the crank. You would think that the water pump, alternator, and crank would be on one belt considering p/s was optional. That's what at least makes sense to me. I've been all through the shop manual and I'm either blatantly missing the diagram or it's just not there. Any info greatly appreciated!

Without being a specialist on 1970 A-body the crank, fan and alternator is the front belt. The second belt is crank and power steering pump.

It should go crank-alternator-water pump on the inner belt, then crank-ps on the first belt...

PS has its own belt. Belt slippage can be caused by a worn belt...sides wore and belt bottoms in pulley. In some cases the actual pulley can be worn. If the belts are not routed correctly there may not be enough belt contacting the pulley. Typically you should have 50-60% coverage. Lastly, if the pulley was painted recently it will squeel for a while until you wear through the paint in the groove.
