Hello fellow Mopar owners. Just got this car last year. Wanted to know which rear axle will fit on my car as a direct bolt-in. Car has 7 1/4 stock axle. I'm considering upgrading to an 8 3/4 for extra stregnth. i would also consider using a modern axle assembly for the sake of having rear disc brakes as well.Any ideas? I'm still new to the hobby. any help is appreciated.Thanks fellow enthusiasts..............Chris

Well what motor do you have . What kind of power are you going to be putting to the rear ? 8 3/4 is a good rear all around If your still rolling stock and going to stay stock the little 7 1/4 should hold up

You can use any A-body 8 3/4 rear. Check to see what size bolt pattern they have, the small or large bolt pattern. If the bolt pattern is not the size you want, you will have to change axles.

Thanks for the response. The car has a stock 318 with a 727. I'm considering putting in a 360 when the time comes for a replacement engine. Since a bigger rear end is required,I figured that using a modern rear axle would be a wiser choice. So I'm thinking that maybe a Dakota rear end might work????????

Go with an 8.25 rear from an Abody. You can then go to the junk yard find a 96 an older jeep grand Cherokee with rear disc, pull those off and grab the section with the gears and sure grip and bolt it all in you a body 8.25 rear.

Maybe a ford 8.8? you can get discs and good gears with an trak lok or w/e ford calls their lsd. Axles go for about 150-200 bucks. You will need to modify it a bit and get a driveshaft made. They are pretty darn strong too.
