They designed those cars right after the Mustang, as that's the market they were trying to go after. I think had they put a little more power in them, they mightta hit the mark. I knew a gal that had one in the early 80s. It was purdy cool. She wasn't bad either. lol

It is 100 percent a direct rip off of a mustang.

The 4 link is exactly the same.

The rear end is basically a "Ford 5 inch".

Is almost criminal or comical how much of a rip off it is.

But it sure will be fun to drive when it's all done.

With the stock 20R it was willing to white smoke the one tire when I drove into the shop.

(It got away from me, what can I say? I've never driven such a high performance vehicle and she just got away from me for a bit. )

:)

New cradle and Rack & pinion set up.

I was thinking there would be a 2TB Hemi in there.

That may be what is going in. The owner has some crazy Japanese 4 banger that I have never herd of.

It's light weight and (IIRC) it makes like 460 HP

Here are some pics of today.

The old engine and Trans are out.

Fender flares mocked up. The front driver fender needs major work before the flare can be attached. The owner has another car and I will be looking to see it's it's fender is better because the sheet metal should be dang near perfect before the flares go on if you want it to ever look right. Rear driver quarter has a substantial dent / drag mark that needs repar.

You don't even want to know what he paid for this car. All my buddy is keeping off th8s car is the wheels and the bare body shell.

For that he payed 8k.

That's just crazy to me but he knows the market on this stuff.

Oh you are gonna die a little bit right now.

It's a 1974 Toyota Celica.

The previous owner loved this car very much. The antifreeze was clean. The ball joints were new, the shocks were new, the Trans mount was torn in half.

I think the last owner drove this car hard and loved it very much.

Yes, they did. The 1977 Celica looked incredibly like a 4/5 scale 1969 Mustang. One of the mainstream car magazines did a feature on the resemblance when the Celica came out.
