I currently have a single barrel carb on the car and want to convert to the 2 barrel super six arrangement . the existing carb has provision for the carb bowl vent line from the canister that connects to the top of the carb. The replacement carb ( carter o- 2543 doesnt have that provision)

the purge line from the canister connects to the center of the existing carb.
the replacement one does have this .

how can get these two lines connected so that the replacement carburetor will work with the existing canister . plse help

That Carter number is a casting number, not a carburetor number. Carter carb numbers were stamped on an aluminum tag secured to the carb by one of the bowl screws. Usually removed and discarded during the "remanufacturing" process.

For info on canister hookup with carbs not equipped, read this.

Very helpful as always. I've been curious about the same thing. Unfortunately my NAPA does not have that in stock and the part comes up as "Unavailable to ship to home" on the website... Is there a known/recommended replacement option for the NAPA Echlin 2-28011?

Got my T fittings today... Will be waiting for the purge valves a little bit longer... Got 2 of everything since I'll be doing a 2bbl conversion to the other valiant at point in the future... Just in the squirreling away parts phase for now... Anyway... Thanks for posting such a timely thread @pjogger and thanks again for the helpful documentation Dan!

      Thanks for the reply:

the Carburetor that i want to use does not have a nipple for the float bowl valve . instead of blocking it off at the canister would it be feasible to route this into the air breather assembly on the outside of the air filter, in that housing ?.

I will be hooking up the purge line into the PCV valve and adding the external purge valve as described and teeing into the vacuum advance line.

You should use a carburetor more compatible with the car you're working on.

      No, that would be pointless.

so what is the function of the this float bowl valve from the canister?? is it reasonable to just block it off at the canister? and would things work as intended

@pjogger I was under the assumption that that line vented vapor FROM the carb TO the canister... So I think what Dan is saying is jacking it into the air cleaner would be attempting to "flow" it backwards... But since there's all that black magic going on inside the canister it essentially would do nothing... So *I think* capping it off is the path forward...
Of course I may stand to be corrected... I'm learning right along side ya!

Yes, if your carb bowl vent is just open to the air (that's a 49-state/Canada pre-'71 or a California pre-'70 carb) then block off/don't use the canister port intended to connect to the carb bowl vent.

I know this sounds like a very basic question but i just received a purge valve ( its a cp 104) and it will be going to be teed into the PCV valve line . I would assume this will go in down stream of the canister. the valve has the two lines one is marked tank and the other can. the third smaller line is vacuum. the question does it matter in what direction it is installed in the line??

@pjogger This is how I was going to set mine up. I believe it's correct. I drew up this little diagram for planning purposes. Just gotta my get my ass to the store for some lines!
