Hi guys my son has a 2001 intreped, that has a power stearing line leaking.I pop the hood and what the f%^$ there is too much in there lol.Now we dont know what line is witch,is the line going from the rack to the power stering pump the high preasure line. The outher line from rack goes looks like to the rad we think or some were neer it.Any thoughts.

Funny, I have the same car and the same leak!! I will snap a pic of the leaky line on mine and maybe it will help. Also, pick up a Chiltons manual for that car, it has helped me plenty!!

My son pick up that manual it is very vag as to the power stearling lines sure could use help on this one I feel bad not being able to help him out.

Do you know where the leak is, is it already torn apart? One thing that will help find the leak is to degrease the engine or just the area of the leak. Then have someone start the car and steer it from side to side while you look under the hood for the leak, it will squirt while doing this making the leak easier to find, especially if everything is coated in power steering fluid.

O ya we can see the leak for sure there is 2 lines side by side. One line from the rack goes directly to the pump and its not leaking the outher line from the rack looks like it goes neer the lower rad from there we cant see were it ataches to.me thinks its the returne line, and if so I think we could cut out the bad metal line and atach a ruber hose in between and clamp it.My son say Dad dont cut that line unless we are sure its the return line. Our local mopar dealer quoted us like 500 bucks for the return line.he is poor like me so any fix would be good now.thanks for the help

I was going to get you a pic but everything is a mess, you are right, too much crap in the way for a good picture. Mine is leaking just after the pump in the rubber high pressure hose. You could try cutting it but if it is high pressure it may leak at the clamps or blow off the metal line where you cut it, if you do this you may want to use high pressure rubber hose, your parts store should have this. If you cut the metal line could you get in there with a flare tool and flare the line where you cut it? If so it would be better against it leaking. That sounds pretty spendy for a new line, can you get it at a local parts store? Maybe check out a junk yard for a used one, there should be plenty there.

We think the parts guy did not know what to look for.No two tight to get in and flare it.If we knew the line that is leaking is the return line I would just go ahead and cut it.
