2025 15th Annual FABO NHRA "Pick 'Em" Game - I Can't Wait!!!

-
Congratulations to 'johnnycuda' (FABO) for winning the 2025 Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals Top Qualifier title with an outstanding total of 30.0 bonus points. He correctly picked the #1 qualifier in Top Fuel, the #2 qualifiers in both Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle, and the #3 qualifier in Funny Car.
'TT5.9mag' (FABO) was right behind with 29.0 bonus points.
'Outlawd' was the highest FBBO qualifier with 28.0 bonus points.

More great picks!

We have 15 players again this week and 13 different driver combos made up of:
* 7 different Top Fuel drivers with two Round 1 head-to-head matchups. One between #1 qualifier Brittany Force (4 picks) and #10 qualifier Shawn Langdon (1 pick), and the other between #3 qualifier Clay Millican (1 pick) and #8 qualifier Justin Ashley (1 pick). There is also a possibility of two head-to-head matchups in Round 2 if all drivers survive.
* 4 different Funny Car drivers with no Round 1 head-to-head matchups. The earliest possibility of a head-to head matchup is in the semi-Final round of eliminations if all drivers survive.
* 3 different Pro Stock drivers with no Round 1 head-to-head matchups. There earliest possibility of a head-to-head matchup is in the semi-Final round if both drivers survive.

* 3 different Pro Stock Motorcycle drivers. All are in the same half of the bracket. The earliest possibility of a head-to-head matchup is the Round 2 of eliminations if both riders survive until then.

Good luck all!

Congratulations to 'TT5.9mag' (FABO) for winning the "Top Picker Eliminator" title for the 2025 Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals with an outstanding total of 159.0 points. He picked the class winner in Funny Car, his Pro Stock Motorcycle pick went to the final round of eliminations before losing, his Pro Stock pick lost in the semi-final round of eliminations, and his Top Fuel pick fell in the opening elimination round. His total was also helped with ET bonus points in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle, and speed bonus points in Funny Car. He was the only player to pick Brittany Force in Top Fuel so he also picked up National Record speed bonus points.
'GTXDAN' (FBBO) and 'stroked340' (FABO) were right behind with 147.5 points.
Way to go!

Here's where the bonus points were earned if you picked the right drivers:

Remember, the game points will reset after the U.S. Nationals according to the same protocol used since 2022. I will post the specific point reset protocol and the special game rules for the 2025 "Countdown" just prior to the U.S. Nationals.
It looks like the reset points are going to be closer than ever.
Also remember that the game points for the U.S. Nationals will be "points-and-a-half" with 15 points awarded for each elimination round win., This has always resulted in a lot of position change.

We get a break because the next race event of the 2025 NHRA season is the 43rd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceways in Brainerd, MN, scheduled for August 14-17.

As of this morning, nhra.com currently shows the following entries:
11 Top Fuel
16 Funny Car
17 Pro Stock

Pro Stock Motorcycle will not compete at this event.

As always, please check to verify your picks are participating before posting your picks.

GOOD LUCK!

Turns out this blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while also.

Alan Johnson was semi close to home, so he got Doug tuned up for the win  Stewart only 12 points out of TF lead?

Yes, Tony Stewart is only 12 points out of the TF season points lead.
Steve Torrence, despite competing in only 9 of the 12 races so far, sits in 8th place. 95 points ahead of Josh Hart and 147 points ahead of 10th place Shawn Reed for a spot in the "Countdown". Torrence missed both of the West Coast Swing races and isn't yet entered in either the upcoming Lucas Oil Nationals in Minnesota or the U.S. Nationals in Indy.

Following completion of the recent Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals, the following drivers have locked their berths in the 2025 Countdown to the Championship:

Top Fuel

  • Shawn Langdon - 990 points
  • Tony Stewart - 942
  • Justin Ashley - 879
  • Doug Kalitta - 869
  • Antron Brown - 779
Funny Car
  • Austin Prock - 1020 points
Pro Stock
  • Dallas Glenn - 1045 points
  • Greg Anderson - 1008
Pro Stock Motorcycle
  • Gaige Herrera - 794 points
  • Richard Gadson - 724
  • Matt Smith - 672
  • John Hall - 473
  • Angie Smith - 445

All others will be working harder to fight their way inside the top 10 to get a spot in the Countdown.
Only two races left before the Countdown: the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd (TF/FC/PS), and the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis (TF/FC/PS/PSM).
Remember, the U.S. Nationals is a "points-and-a-half" race.

Interesting concept!

On Brian Lohnes' latest podcast today, while talking to Ron Capps he mentioned an idea for changing how the Funny Car Callout is run at the U.S. Nationals. Ron offered another thought and between them they came up with something that would make this specialty event really interesting:
  • The Callout would still feature the top eight cars based on points over the past year of competition. But instead of each of the top four drivers calling out who they want to race, the individual matchups would be chosen by fan vote and not known until actual race time.
  • Neither the teams nor the crewchiefs would know who they would be racing or if they had lane choice
  • All eight teams would line up in the staging lanes
  • The first two competitors would be announced and would then immediately pulled up to race
  • Lane choice will go to the competitor with the current quickest U.S. Nationals qualifying run through the first 3 rounds of qualifying
  • After completion of the first race, the next two competitors would be announced and then race. Followed by the third pair and the final pair.
I think this would make for a great way to run the Callout.
What are your thoughts?

Shawn Reed is entered in Top Fuel at both the upcoming Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, MN, and the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. However, he has not yet healed sufficiently from his nasty accident at the recent Northwest Nationals so he will be using fill-in replacement drivers for both events to help secure his spot in the 2025 Countdown.
He announced today that Jordan Vandergriff will be driving the Reed Trucking & Excavating Top Fuel dragster at the Lucas Oil Nationals.
The replacement driver for the U.S. Nationals will be announced in the near future.

Here's your 'Tuesday before the race' notice for the 43rd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, August 14-17, at Brainerd International Raceways in Brainerd, MN.
Please check the driver entries and post your picks before Pro Stock and Nitro qualifying starts so you will be eligible for all event bonus points.

As of this morning nhra.com currently shows the following entries:
14 Top Fuel
16 Funny Car
20 Pro Stock

Pro Stock Motorcycle will not compete at this event.

Because of the short field in Top Fuel, I suggest you double-check to make sure all of your driver picks are racing. There have also been some no-shows at recent race events of the season. If your posted driver skips the event and you do not select a replacement prior to the start of eliminations, I will use your posted driver from the most recent completed event. Unfortunately, any replacement driver after the start of qualifying will not be eligible for any event bonus points.

Despite the short entry field there are several drivers making their initial 2025 debuts:
* 2 Top Fuel entries are making their season debut at this event and one of them is a seasoned veteran
* 2 Pro Stock entries are making their season debut at this event

The current weekend weather forecast shows:
* Friday currently shows partly cloudy with a high of 80F at the start of Q1 dropping to mid-70sF at the start of Q2
* Saturday forecast is for early morning rain, then mostly cloudy with a high of 72F at the start of Q3 going up to upper-70sF for Q4
* Sunday weather forecast for Eliminations show a chance of rain all day with temps in the low 70sF. This could be 'iffy'.

The current television schedule for the Lucas Oil Nationals...
* Qualifying Show 1: 10:00-11:30pm EDT (7:00pm-8:30pm PDT), Friday, August 15 on FS1
* Qualifying Show 2: 7:00-8:30pm (4:00pm-5:30pm PDT), Satuday, August 16 on FS1
* Eliminations: 3:00-6:00pm EDT (Noon-3:00pm PDT), Sunday, August 17 on FOX
All television coverage will also re-air at later times. Check www.nhra.com.

Don't miss out!

@ocdart in your reminder it says “pro stock motorcycle will not compete” then a couple lines later says “two pro stock motorcycle entries are making their season debut”.

Do you mean pro stock?

There is also a possibility of one head-to-head matchup in Round 2 if both drivers survive.
